EPA Administrator Governor Christie Whitman, presented an award to Ian Smith, a fifth grader from Pocatello, Idaho, winner of the National Radon Poster contest. The contest is sponsored by EPA and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cooperative Extension Service www.montana. edu/wwwcxair. Many from EPA and USDA gathered to congratulate Ian on his achievement. Ian was acknowledged for his creativity and the impact his poster will have in moti- . vating homeowners across the country to test for and fix high levels of radon. World Asthma Day is approaching! Join EPA and many non-profit organizations on May 7th to sponsor an asthma awareness program in your community that focuses on the environmental contributors to asthma. Growing at an alarming rate, asthma is one the world's leading diseases among children. Established in 1999 by the Global Initiative for Asthma, World Asthma Day is a worldwide effort to reduce the risks of asthma. Check out the attached World Asthma Day flyer and visit the EPA web site at www.epa.gov/iaq/asthma/wad2002 for more details on how to sponsor your own World Asthma Day Event. 3rd Annual IAQ Tools for Schools National Symposium: EPA will host the 2002 Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools (IAQ TFS) Symposium August 8-10, 2002, in Washington, D.C. The Symposium will bring together various school officials to discuss the importance of good indoor air quality (IAQ) hi schools.
