ACTION: Notice of availability of report*
on household hazardous waste and state
solid waste (subtitle D) programs.

SUMMARY: The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) is today
announcing the availability of two
reports. The first report is entitled "A
Survey of Household Hazardous Waste
and Related Collection Programs." This
report defines household hazardous
waste (HHW); summarizes existing
information regarding the presence of
HHW in residential waste; and
discusses the impacts of HHW on
homeowners, solid waste collection and
disposal personnel, and the
environment. Information about HHW
collection programs conducted at the
State and local levels is also included in
the report. The second report is entitled
"Census of State and Territorial Subtitle
D Non-Hazardous Waste Programs."
This report summarizes die results of a
mail survey of State and Territorial non-
hazardous (solid) waste regulatory  ,
.programs. Data from all the States and
six Territories are reported. State
organization and available resources for
Subtitle D programs are given. Numbers
and basic characteristics of landfills,
land application units, and surface
impoundments are included, as well as
information on regulations and
enforcement patterns.
