               For Presenters of the 40-Minute
               Videotape: "Superfund Risk
Assessment and How You Can Help'
This videotape will help EPA staff:

 •  Explain the Superfund human health risk assessment process;
 • Describe how community members can contribute and be invo'lved; and
 • Lay the groundwork for in-depth discussions on risk assessment — how it relates to
cleanup and how people can provide input.

The video is technical and was designed to be stopped at intervals to let people ask
questions and for you to emphasize the key points raised in the video. You should stop
the tape after each part of the risk assessment is explained. Refer to the Presenter's
Manual for a complete list of key concepts and other relevant topics for discussion.

Some key concepts raised in the video:

 • Proper sampling and analysis are vital
 • Without exposure, there is no health risk
 • Community input is important
 • Risk assessment is a tool for deciding if there is a risk and how much cleanup will be
    protective
 • When uncertainty exists, EPA uses safety margins to protect public health and the
    environment

A 10-minute introductory video containing information extracted from the 40-minute
