Innovative Remediation Technologies:
Field-Scale Demonstration Projects in
North America, 2nd Edition
BACKGROUND
The development of new and innovative technologies
and methods for treating environmental contaminants
is a critical step in the effort to cleanup the nation's
hazardous waste sites. Field demonstration of these
technologies is, in turn, a key step in their develop-
ment. The continuing investment of public and private
resources in demonstration projects represents a
major commitment to promoting the technical and
cost advantages offered by these technologies.
Since the mid-1980's, the number of government-
sponsored or supported field demonstrations of new
technologies for treating environmental contaminants
has grown to nearly six hundred. The projects are
sponsored by government agencies, usually working
in partnership with private technology developers to
bring new technologies into the marketplace.

REPORT
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has
gathered information on government-sponsored
technology demonstrations and summarized that

ONLINE DATABASE
EPA maintains a free, searchable, online database of
the projects contained in the 2nd edition document
plus other, new projects added to the database as
they are reported. The database features search
functions that allow users to target projects that
address certain media, contaminants, and other
parameters. The database is updated quarterly to
provide information on new projects as results are
made available. The online database can be accessed
via the Internet at .
