Communica- tion and coordination among government officials, the research/engineering community, and the public is essential if reasonable so- lutions are to be implemented. This three-day international conference will draw together leading experts and practitioners dealing with contami- nated groundwater in bedrock. The conference will fo- cus on state-of-the-art methods of site characterization, contaminant mobility and behavior, as well as contain- ment and remediation in groundwater and the vadose zone. Presentations will focus on all types of rock ; and organic contaminants (aqueous phase, LNAPLs, and I DNAPLs), inorganic contaminants, isotopes, radionu- clides, and all meth- ods of investigation (laboratory, numeri- cal modeling, field work, case histo- ries, and policy). The results of this conference will help point to prac- tical solutions to the problems re- lated to measuring, predicting, containing, and cleaning-up contaminants in complex bedrock environments, as well as provide input into a science and technology program plan for the next decade. This will be documented and become a guide to assist agencies funding research with decisions and sup- porting information as they develop budgets. This conference is aimed at all professionals dealing with groundwater contamination and waste disposal consid- eration in fractured bedrock. The conference will be of interest to consultants, researchers, regulators, vendors, and site owners. J. Carrera, Tech. University of Catalonia J. Gale, Memorial University P. Haeni, USGS P.
