Vendor Field Analytical and
Characterization Technologies
System (Vendor FACTS)
INTRODUCTION TO Vendor FACTS
The Vendor Field Analytical and Characterization
Technologies System (Vendor FACTS) is a database
developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency's (EPA) Technology Innovation Office (TIO)
and the Environmental Monitoring and Support
Laboratory (EMSL) in Las Vegas. Vendor FACTS was
developed to disseminate much needed information on
innovative techniques for site and waste
characterization and to promote the use of more cost-
effective methods for on-site monitoring and
measurement. The database will contain information
provided to EPA by vendors, suppliers, and
manufacturers on the applicability, performance, and
current use of their products. It will serve as a tool for
hazardous waste site cleanup professionals to gather
information and assess new monitoring and
measurement technologies.
TECHNOLOGIES INCLUDED
Vendor FACTS will contain information on
technologies that can be operated on-site, thus
avoiding the shipping, handling, and' time delay
involved in off-site analysis. Vendor FACTS will
include technologies such as field portable analytical,
monitoring, and screening devices for detection and
quantification of priority pollutants in the air, soil, and
water; as well as various screening technologies such
as immunoassay kits that can detect or measure
environmental pollutants deemed hazardous or
requiring specific actions under EPA rules and policies.
Prior to accepting technology applications for inclusion
in Vendor FACTS, EPA will review each technology for
eligibility, applicability, and completeness.
FEATURES OF Vendor FACTS
Vendor FACTS uses a database structure similar to the
widely distributed Vendor Information System for
Innovative Treatment Technologies (VISITT) which
was developed by TIO to disseminate information on
innovative hazardous waste remediation technologies.
Vendor FACTS will contain vendor records that allow
technology screening by parameters such as
contaminants, media, and development status. The
system will be a DOS-based, menu driven database
that requires very 'little set-up time and will be
available on diskettes. Vendor FACTS also will be
available as a downloadable file on EPA's Cleanup
Information Bulletin [Board Systems (BBS).
OBTAINING AND SUBMITTING INFORMATION FOR
Vendor FACTS
In the fall of 1994, EPA will solicit technology
information from vendors, manufacturers and suppliers
of on-site monitoring and measurement technologies.
Anyone interested in submitting information on their
products for inclusion in Vendor FACTS should request
a Vendor Information Form (VIF) (available in
December 1994) by contacting the National Center for
Environmental Publications and Information (NCEPI),
P.O. Box 42419, Cincinnati, OH, 45242-0419; fax
(513) 891-6685. ERA plans to distribute diskettes for
the Vendor FACTS database free of charge to the
public. A request | form for obtaining the Vendor
FACTS VIF and database is included on the back of
this bulletin. !
