  EPA'sTechnology Innovation Office (TIO) was
  created in 1990 to act as an advocate for new': ;
  technologies. TIO's mission is to increase the
  application of innovative technologies to.
.  characterize and remediate contaminated
  waste sites. TIO has encouraged and relied
  on cooperative ventures to accomplish most •
  of its early goals. The effort to leverage  .
  resources has  led to numerous joint efforts •
 that have enhanced the  state of remediation.
