             National Primary Drinking Water Regulations

                       Personal Computer Application

EPA and State regulators, local health officials, outreach providers, and others implementing the
drinking water program can have:

    •   User- friendly access to Federal drinking water regulations through a personal computer-
       based software program; and
    •   Access to a consolidated information directory with the names and addressesof key Federal
       and State regulators.

                           What Information is Included?

The following categories of information are included hi the system:
    •   All proposed and promulgated regulations through July 18,1991;
       Promulgated rules include SWTR, TCR, Phases I & H, Fluoride and Lead and Copper.
       Proposed rules include Phase V and Radionuclides.
    •   The complete Federal Register text, a brief description, and unreasonable risk to health
       information for each .rule;
    •   EPA and State contacts;
    •   Definitions; and
    •   Standardized Monitoring Framework.
The system has the capability to access information in a variety of ways, such as by: rule package,
contaminant, treatment technique, Federal Register, and PWS characteristics. Instructions for using
these methods of accessing regulations are included within the application's HELP, function.

                      What State Information can be Incorporated?

Information may be customized for use by individual States:
    •  State regulations, citations, and descriptions can be added next to Federal regulations;
    •  Organizational parts within a State can be added (i.e., county health departments);
    •  Specific State information added will be saved during subsequent updates; and
    •  Users may print any screen for a hard copy of information in the system.

                       What Computer Capabilities are Needed?

The system is designed to operate on an IBM AT compatible personal computer with a minimum
memory of 640 K and 2.6 MB of available hard disk space. The system works best with a color
monitor and a mouse.
