Wetcleaning Services
The following is a list of professional clothes cleaning
establishments with the ability to provide Wetcleaning
services. Companies are listed alphabetically by state
or country. While all of the shops listed here have the
capability to perform machine wetcleaning, they may
not actually be providing this service to their customers
at this time. This list is based on research conducted by
the EPA, the Center for Neighborhood Technology,
and Greenpeace. For a current listing of wetcleaners,

An * indicates a shop is 100 percent wetclean (no other
solvents in shop).
Currently, most of the nation's 34,000 commercial dry-
cleaners are using perchloroethylene (PCE or perc) as a
solvent to clean clothes. But growing concern that perc
can cause health and environmental problems, as well
as changes in regulatory requirements and landlord re-
strictions, have spurred research on new ways to safely
clean clothes. As part of a cooperative effort between
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the
clothes cleaning industry, the EPA Design for the Envi-
ronment (DfE) Garment and Textile Care Program
(GTCP) Program encourages drycleaners to explore
environmentally preferable technologies capable of
cleaning garments labeled "dryclean only." Aqueous
cleaning systems, otherwise known and professional
wetcleaning, are one example of an environmentally
friendly technology that numerous companies in the
garment and textile industry have begun using.
Consumer demand for wetcleaning is on the rise.
This increase is evidenced by the increasing number
of facilities offering wetcleaning services, the dramat-
ically increasing number of machines that wetcleaning
mariuiacturers report they have sold in the past few
years, and the growth in the number of new wetclean-
ing products on the market. Other improvements that
have made wetcleaning a more
viable and safer clothes clean-
ing process include the devel-
opment of specialized deter-
gents, fabric softeners, dye-
setting agents that reduce
bleeding, mild bleaching
agents, and fabric finishes that
restore fabric hand.

Use reduction Institute, this course explains how wetcleaning works and how to operate a wetcleaning facility. The course also explains how to convert a drycleaning
facility to a wetcleaning facility.
• Plain English Guide for Perc Cleaners (EPA 305-B-96-002). This document follows the step-by-step approach perc drycleaners should take to comply with the
federal environmental and health regulations pertaining to them. Also includes the forms necessary to be in compliance with federal air regulations.
