Protecting the Sources of the Nation's Drinking Water:
Opportunities for Action
Dear Colleague:
EPA is pleased to announce the 2003 National Source Water Protection Conference. The
conference, "Protecting the Sources of the Nation's Drinking Water: Opportunities
for Action" will be held on June 2-4, 2003, at the Hotel Washington, Pennsylvania
Avenue at 15th Street NW, in Washington DC.
As states complete over 165,000 source water assessments, the 2003 National Source
Water Protection Conference will build upon this effort by providing information and
opportunities for action planning. Participants will be able to learn and network with
individuals from a variety of federal, state, local, and tribal programs, and non-
governmental organizations, including environmental, conservation partners, public
health, business, and citizens' organizations; technical assistance providers, and others
who are working to promote source water protection.
Senator Paul Simon, author of Tapped Out: The Coming World Crisis in Water and What
We Can Do About It will be the conference's key note speaker. The conference will
provide a wide variety of sessions that will enable participants to:
• Build networks and partnerships to promote protection;
• Incorporate protection goals into other responsibilities;
• Find tools and funding to make protection happen; and
• Identify opportunities and overcome challenges.
Please mark June 2-4, 2003 on your calendar to attend this informative conference. To
register for the conference, learn more, or express an interest in attending, please visit
the conference web site at www.epa.gov/safewater/protect/swpconf.html. To reserve a
