 Introduction

The Federal Task Force on Environmental Education
 facilitates communication and collaboration among
federal agencies and departments who have common
interests in supporting and implementing environmental
education (EE) programs. The Task Force places
emphasis on supporting joint interagency EE projects
that further the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency's (EPA) EE priorities and leverage both federal
and non-federal dollars. Summaries of some of the
projects funded in 1998 are described below. Members
of the Task Force include the U.S. Departments of
Education, Interior, Agriculture, and Energy as well as
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the
National Science Foundation, and the Peace Corps.
EPA serves as the chair of the Task Force. A complete
list of current Task Force members is included below.

Examples of Projects Funded in 1998

U.S. Department of Energy- The "Environmental Academy for Secondary Youth" enables EPA
and the Department of Energy to work together to support an interdisciplinary environmental
design program for secondary students and teachers from school districts that serve lower-income
 and culturally diverse students.

U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (ELM) - The "Rocky Mountain
State Capacity Building" project assists EPA and BLM in working collaboratively with eight state
