Welcome to the ERC...
The Environmental Response Center, or ERC, is an information clearinghouse
that supports the reference and research needs of its primary user, the United
States Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Response Team (U.S.
EPA/ERT). In addition to serving the U.S. EPA/ERT, the ERC assists other
patrons such as On-Scene Coordinators (OSCs), Remedial Project Managers
(RPMs) and U.S. EPA/ERT contractors. The ERC can often augment the
research and information retrieval needs of other government cleanup
community members (after these groups have consulted first with their
respective regional and area libraries), serving as a liaison between them and the
information they need.
The ERC's Technical Information Specialist and qualified staff routinely
provide patrons with effective strategies for locating crucial, time-sensitive
information. A variety of sources, including print media, electronic data, and
audio/visual resources, are housed and managed at the ERC. Remote access to
the electronic ERC network increases its outreach capabilities and can bring a
variety of resources as close as your desk top.

Information Needs...
\£» I'm planning a training demonstration. Where can I find slides and
photos of hazmat workers dressed in Level C protective gear conducting
sampling?
A. The ERC manages an image archive of over 6,000 photographs and
slides that are available for review and duplication. New images are
added to the system continuously.
Q. How can I update my chemical database for the Health and Safety
Planner (HASP) software program?
A. HASP database downloads are available by accessing the ERC network
via remote access.
(£• How can I receive information on establishing a work zone at an uncon-
trolled hazardous waste site?
A. The ERC Distribution Center can send you a fact sheet entitled
Establishing Work Zones at Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Sites. In
addition to fact sheets, the distribution center houses a wide variety of
technical materials, from health and safety documents to videos. These
materials are offered free of charge to the EPA community. Call the ERC
distribution hotline at 1-800-999-6990 to request an order form of the
available items.
Q. Is there a way that I can access the ERC Network from my own PC?
A. The ERC Remote Access Communications Package, available by request
through the distribution center, allows 24-hour-a-day, toll-free remote
access to some of the features of the ERC network. Using the package,
you can view the ERC library catalog, perform searches with four1
available databases (including Soil Transport and Fate and Coordinated
List of Chemicals), leave and receive message for other users via an
electronic mail system, and perform file transfers.
