Information Clearinghouse
The Pollution Prevention Information Clearinghouse (PPIQ is dedicated to
reducingoreliminatingindustrialpoliutants through technology transfer, education,
and public awareness. It is a free, noniegulatory service of the U.S. EPA, and
consists of: a telephone reference and referral service, a repository and the
Pollution Prevention Information Exchange System (PIES), a computerized
information exchange system. The Clearinghouse is operated by the U.S. EPA's
Office of Pollution rtevention and Toxics and the Office of Research and
Development .

The PPIC Reference and Referral service is available to answer/refer questions on
pollution prevention and to take orders for documents. The Clearinghouse
disseminates selected EPA documents and fact sheets on pollution prevention free
of charge. For a current distribution list call, fax, or mail a request to the PPIC (see
below).
The repository of the PPIC is a hard copy reference collection, currently being
relocated to the U.S. EPA Headquarters Library. The collection includes training
materials, conference proceedings, case studies, journals, and Federal and State
govemmentpublications. The Repository's bibliographic holdings can be viewed
on an inhouse InMagic database
The public is welcome to use the PPIC resources and can collect material, free of
charge, at the Library. The Library is located in room M2904 of the USEPA
Headquarters building (401 M Street, SW) and is open from 10am to 4pm EST.

PIES is the computerized information network of EPA's Pollution
Prevention Information Clearinghouse. PIES provides on-line
interactive access through modem and PC to a wide range of pollution
prevention information. It is open 24 hours a day and requires no user
fees. PIES features literature search functions, a national calendar of
conferences and workshops relating to pollution prevention, hundreds
of case studies of pollution prevention, a message center for interaction
and exchange with participants, and direct access to news and
documents. The International Cleaner Production Information
Clearinghouse (ICPIQ and OzonAction are also available by accessing
PIES.
You can access PIES if you have a personal computer, a modem,
communications software and a telephone line. Pies is accessible
through a regular telephone call, the SprintNet network and the EPA
x.25 wide area network (for EPA employees only).

A short, 4 page, "PIES Quick Reference Guide" was written to help
new users log-on to and use the system. A PIES User Guide (version
2.1, Nov. 1992) is also available. These documents may be obtained
free of charge by leaving a message on the system addressed to
"Sysop", or by writing or calling the PIES Technical Support Office.
