CONFERENCE GOALS
AND OVERVIEW
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office
of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, (Tech-
nology Innovation Office), Office of Research and
Development (Risk Reduction Engineering Labora-
tory) and Region V are sponsoring this conference.
The goals of the conference are:
• to help introduce promising innovative do-
mestic and international hazardous waste
treatment technologies through technical pa-
per and poster displays
• to showcase results of the U.S. EPA Super-
fund Innovative Technology Evaluation
(SITE) Program
• to present selected case studies of innova-
tive technology applications
• to highlight partnerships with EPA through
the Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA)
Program and the Small Business Adminis-
tration (SBA).
The overall aim is to increase awareness in the user
community of technologies ready for application at
hazardous waste sites.
This 3-day conference consists of presentations of
technical papers and posters by international and
domestic vendors of technologies for the treatment
of hazardous wastes, including soils, sludges, sedi-
ments, and groundwater. Selected case studies will
be presented, providing results of application of in-
novative technologies in real-life situations.
A concurrent session will be held on Wednesday
that will include discussions of Partnerships with
U.S. Environmental r.o'-:ibn Agency

EPA in the Development of Innovative Technologies
and the Export Assistance Center, a cooperative
government effort directed at international technolo-
gies in the world marketplace.
A closing Plenary Session will be devoted to a dis-
cussion of environmental technology exports. A
discussion of the issue will be provided from the
perspective of North American Free Trade Agree-
ment (NAFTA) partners from the U.S., Mexico, and
Canada.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The target audience for the conference includes
EPA Regional and State Agency staff, Federal, state,
and private clean-up contractors, potentially re-
sponsible parties, facility owners/operators, vendors
of hazardous waste control technologies, DOE and
DOD representatives, and others who may be in-
terested in commercial interaction with domestic and
international companies.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
There is no fee to attend the conference. However,
all attendees must register by mail or fax. Please
fill out the registration form included in this brochure
and return to SAIC by Friday, April 22, 1994. Con-
firmation notices will be sent within 10 days of re-
ceipt of your registration. Travel information will be
provided in the confirmation letter.
POSTER SESSIONS
More than 100 posters will be on display at the two
evening Poster Sessions/Receptions. Posters from
EPA's Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation
-------
(SITE) Programs and international vendors will be
on display, providing attendees with an opportunity
to interact with the vendors of these innovative tech-
nologies.
FIELD TRIP
A field trip to the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT)
is planned. The field trip tentatively includes a tour
of IGT's bioremediation laboratories; activities rang-
ing from microbial train development to bioreactor
design are conducted in these facilities. IGT also
operates large process-development and pilot-scale
facilities; remediation and waste reduction technolo-
gies being developed at this site include fluidized-
bed soil agglomeration, cyclonic combustion, and
ultra-low-emission premixed burners.
The fee for the tour is $6.00, which includes trans-
portation. This fee will be collected onsite when
you register at the tour sign-up desk (first-come,
first-served basis). More information will be pro-
vided at the Forum.
PROCEEDINGS
A formal Proceedings will be produced and each
registered attendee will receive a copy. If you will
not be attending the Symposium, but would like a
copy of the Proceedings, check the appropriate box
on the Registration Form.
OTHER SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
During the Forum EPA exhibits and databases re-
lated to remediation of uncontrolled hazardous
waste sites will be on display including: Vendor In-
formation System for Innovative Treatment Tech-
-------
nologies (VISITT), Alternative Treatment Technol-
ogy Information Center (ATTIC), Superfund Inno-
vative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program, and
Federal Technology Transfer Act (FTTA) Program.
In addition, Canada's Development and Demonstra-
tion of Site Remediation Technologies (DESRT)
exhibit will be on display. Videotapes will be shown
on special topics.
Attendees may use a designated hotel conference
room for small meetings (up to 12 people). A sign-
up sheet for scheduling will be available onsite.
An informal outing for spouses is planned. See the
Registration Coordinator onsite for more informa-
tion.
