Project Summary
An Annotated Bibliography
of Environmental Research
Conducted Within the St. Louis
River Estuary 1903-1982
P. DeVore
The purpose of this project was to
compile and review all of the physical,
biological, and chemical studies
conducted within the confines of the
St. Louis River estuary and to present
the results in an annotated bibliog-
raphy. In order to compile a thorough
bibliography, efforts were made to
locate even obscure studies performed
in the study area. The resulting
document covers the years 1903-
1982.
  It is anticipated with increased
interest in the environmental impacts of
future developments within the estuary
scientific studies will continue. This
bibliography is meant to serve as a tool
for future studies. It is thus intended to
serve as a reference for individuals
attempting to locate specific types of
studies conducted within the St. Louis
River estuary.
  This Project Summary was developed
by EPA's Environmental Research Lab-
oratory, Duluth. MN. to announce key
findings of the research project that is
fully documented in a separate report of
the same title (see Project Report order-
ing information at back).

Introduction
  Manuscripts and publications were
reviewed for content, not for results. Each
review includes the study dates, specific
analyses conducted, and the location
within the estuary. All reviews are
indexed by subject classes: benthos,
birds, fish, fish contaminants,
microbiology, physical processes.
phytoplankton, sediment chemistry,
vegetation, water quality, and
zooplankton.

 This bibliography generally does not
include secondary references such as
many of the International Joint
Commission and Great Lakes
Commission summary reports.
As future reports are available this
bibliography will be updated.
