Henderson, Secretary, OPTS receives Administrator's Award for Excellence, left Vic Kimm, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticides and Toxic Substances, right EPA Administrator Lee Thomas. On December 9, 1987, EPA held its annual awards ceremony which honored the accomplishments and achievements of EPA employees. At the ceremony, Administrator Lee Thomas spoke of his pride in the personal achievements of those honored. He said, "The award recipients we salute today exemplify the dedication, creativity, skill, and high ideals that have made many of our goals realities. I extend my congratulations for their outstanding achievements. They inspire all of us to reaffirm our commitment to EPA's mission." At last year's Honor Awards Ceremony, the Administrator presented Jim Barnes with a special award for his outstanding leadership in human resources management. This award has been made a part of the Agency Honor Awards Program as the A. James Barnes Award for Exemplary Leadership in Human Resources Management. The award recognizes an individual whose continuing efforts and example have significantly advanced human resources management in EPA. The recipient of the 1987 A. James Barnes Award is John G. Welles, former Regional Administrator of Region 8, "whose energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding leadership established an effective human resource management program in that Region." Fitzhugh Green was also honored by the Administrator with a plaque for his long years of dedicated service to EPA and for his contributions as head of International Activities.
