The following is an abstract of a longer document, presenting
Reasonably Available Control Technology (RACT) for Solvent Metal
Cleaning. In order to limit .the size of the Guideline Series, the
actual RACT documents have not been incorporated, but rather, sent
out under separate cover to those agencies receiving the Guideline
Series. Agencies and individuals may request a copy of this document
by providing the title and OAQPS identification number to the appropriate
Regional Office Librarian.
Title: Control of Volatile Organic Emissions from Solvent Metal
Cleaning
Authors: Jeffrey L. Shumaker, Emission Standards and Engineering
Division, OAQPS
John C. Bellinger, formerly with Emission Standards and
Engineering Division, OAQPS
Date: November 1977
OAQPS No.: 1.2-079
Summary:
This report provides the necessary guidance to control
emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from solvent metal
cleaning operations. Emissions are characterized and Reasonably
Available Control Technology (RACT) is defined for each of the three
major categories of solvent metal cleaners: cold cleaners, open
top vapor degreasers, and conveyorized degreasers. Information on
the cost of control, environmental impact and enforcement issues
is also included.
