INFOTERRA Represented at EPA's
4th National Environmental Information Conference
INFOTERRA partners from Canada, Ireland, India, Botswana and the
United States, along with Dr. Woyen Lee, Director INFOTERRA Programme
Activity Centre (PAQ and Roger Johnson of INFOTERRA/PAC, attended
EPA's 4th National Environmental Information Conference in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania on December 2-5,1991. Environmental information and its role
in reducing risks from environmental hazards was the conference theme.
Participants attended sessions on risk reduction, data integration, pollution
prevention and strategic planning, all focusing on the key role of environmental
information and data in scientifically based environmental decision-making.
Sound decisions can be made only when based on sound environmental
information. Breakout sessions were held on such topics as market-based
environmental incentives, data sharing methods, and empowering the
environmental organization.
INFOTERRA/USA distributed copies of the U.S. Directory of
Environmental Sources, the newly published national source directory, and
other information on INFOTERRA/USA services. Demonstrations of the
INFOTERRA Database were given and materials from the INFOTERRA
National Focal Points in India, Ireland and the United States were distributed.
Dr. Woyen Lee participated in a panel discussion on global information
databases and data exchange.

Atlas of the Environment.
Geoffery Lean, Don Hinrichsen, and Adam
Markham.
Prentice Hall Press, 1990.
REFG1046 G3L4 1990
This new acquisition is a
compendium of data
concerning environment and
development presented in a
clear, concise manner. The
editors have drawn upon the
best available information from
the United Nations and its
agencies, the World Bank, the
World Resources Institute, the
Worldwatch Institute, the
Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development,
the International Institute for
Environment and Development,
the World Conservation Union,
and the World Wildlife
Foundation.
The text is divided into

development or environmental
concerns. Each chapter is
prefaced by a brief description
of the issues surrounding the
data presented. Colorful world
maps and graphs display
statistics in a simple, easy-to
read format.
Data from around the world
include: industrialization and
development, tropical forest
destruction, human health,
population, the wildlife trade,
pollution, ozone, and natural
