                              PREFACE
     The  Office of Air Quality Planning  and  Standards  (OAQPS)r-4-5V"
responsible for directing the national efforts of the       •!*'
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to meet air guality goals,
particularly for smog, hazardous air pollutants, carbon monoxide,
lead, particulate matter (soot, dust, etc.)/ sulfur dioxide,
nitrogen oxides, and visibility.  The OAQPS is the primary office
responsible for implementing the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990,
with direct responsibility for provisions affecting urban and
rural air quality, hazardous air pollutants, operating permits,
and enforcement.

     The  OAQPS  provides many  types  of information services  to  EPA
Headquarters and Regional Offices,  State and local air pollution
control agencies, consultants, industry, and the general public.
The goal of this directory is to provide a brief listing of these
services so that users can more easily determine what is available
and how to obtain it.

     A  review of the  table  of contents should permit the  reader to
quickly locate where needed information may be found.   Information
is grouped into four major areas:  pollutant/program services,
technical support services, administrative support services, and
compliance services.   Each major area is further divided into sub-
categories.  For example, the area of pollutant/program services
is subdivided into air toxics, new source review/prevention of
significant deterioration,  operating permits,  etc.

     Within each sub-category,  line items  describing information
services are categorized by the type of delivery mechanism used.
These include electronic bulletin boards,  clearinghouses, reports
and other documents,  newsletters,  support centers, workshops,  and
direct training such as classroom and self-instructional courses.
Each line item also contains a brief description of the
information available and the name and telephone number of a
contact person who will help you to obtain it.

     We plan to update this directory annually.   Comments and
questions regarding it should be addressed to Bill Hamilton, U.S.

comments on how this directory might be made more useful.
Note: The purpose of this Directory is to inform the public of the
various information transfer activities currently under way in
OAQF8.  Information on other aspects of OAQPS programs and
projects can be obtained from the contact persons listed in the
Air Programs Contacts Directory described on page 13 of this
document.
