NRMRL advances the scientific understanding and the develop- ment and application of technological solutions to prevent, control, or remediate important environmental problems that threaten human health and the environment. - The NRMRL is comprised of six divisions. The Sustainable Technology Division '• (Cincinnati) addresses pollution prevention issues by investigating clean processes and products, by using systems analysis methodologies such as life cycle assessment, and by addressing multi-media problems such as those from the mining and metal finishing industries. The Land Remediation and Pollution Control Division (Cincinnati) conducts research at the bench- and pilot-scale level to explore innovative solutions to land pollution problems, field : evaluates and • demonstrates innovative tech- nologies, and provides technical : assistance to both Superfund and non- Superfund contam- ination problems. The Water Supply and Water Resources Division (Cincinnati & Edison, NJ.) conducts research to help prepare the primary and secondary regulations for drinking water and to develop technologies and strategies for controlling water-borne contam- inants. The Subsurface Protection and Remediation Division (Ada, OK) conducts research and engages in technical assistance and technology transfer on the chemical, physical, and biological structure and processes of the sub-surface environment and the bio-geochemical interactions in that environment.
