Project Summary

Recommended Operating
Procedure No. 2.3:
Sampling and Analysis of Total
Hydrocarbons from Sources by
Continuous Emission Monitor
Raymond A. Grote
 This recommended operating proce-
dure (ROP) has been prepared for use
in research activities conducted by
EPA's Air and Energy Engineering Re-
search Laboratory (AEERL). The
method described in this document is
applicable to the continuous measure-
ment of total hydrocarbons (THCs), also
known as Total Gaseous Organic Con-
centration (TGOC), in effluent gases
where THC concentrations are in the
range 0 to 2000 parts per million (ppm).
 ROPs describe non-routine or experi-
mental research operations where some
judgment in application may be war-
ranted. ROPs may not be applicable to
activities conducted by other research
groups, and should not be used where
it is appropriate to use standard oper-
ating procedures such as those pub-
lished in the Federal Register. Use of
ROPs must be accompanied by an un-
derstanding of their purpose and scope.
Questions should be directed to
AEERL.
  This Project Summary was developed
by EPA's Air and Energy Engineering
Research Laboratory, Research Tri-
angle Park, NC, to announce key find-
ings of the research project that is fully
documented in a separate report of the
same title (see Project Report ordering
information at back).
