v/EPA Project Summary

                 Analysis of Atmosphere
                 Deposition Samples
                 From Easton, PA
                   David Natschke
An industrial area near Easton, PA,
has been troubled for a number of years
with the accumulation of tenacious at-
                 mospheric deposits on exposed sur-
faces such as automobiles and houses.
                 The State of Pennsylvania requested
                 assistance from the U.S. Environmen-
tal Protection Agency, under the Con-
trol Technology Center, for the analy-
sis of these deposits. The Pennsylva-
                 nia Department of Environmental Re-
sources collected samples at two sites
in the area. At the two sites, samples
                 were collected on organic membrane
material for elemental analysis by X-
ray fluorescence and on glass plates
for inorganic phase analysis by X-ray
diffraction. The glass plates were sub-
jected to various methods of analysis
to determine the organic species
present.
