This review will highlight work in progress of the
Science to Achieve Results (STAR) joint solicita-
tions on Bioremediation/Bioavailability supported
by EPA, NSF, DOE, and Office of Naval Research.
The solicitation supports thirty separate research
grants to academia and other non-profits address-
ing a broad range of bioavailability issues.

Characterization Technologies
Training Course
November 1-2 at Indian Lakes
The course, offered by the Northeast and
Great Lakes <& Mid-Atlantic Hazardous Sub-
stance Centers in cooperation with TIO, in-
cludes lectures and hands on experience with
field based site characterization instruments.
The course is available to EPA, State, and local
officials as well as consulting engineers. Regis-
tration is $50. Limited travel stipends available
for state and city employees. For more informa-
