Developed by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), the Innovative
Remediation and Site Characterization
Technologies Resources CD-ROM (EPA
542-C-04-002) gives users quick access to
over 100 publications developed by EPAand
its partners.
Mission
EPA's Technology Innovation Office (TIO)
was created in 1990 to act as an advocate
for new technologies. TIO's mission is to
increase the .application of innovative
technologies to characterize and remediate
contaminated waste sites. TIO has
encouraged and relied on cooperative
ventures to accomplish most of its early
goals. The effort to leverage resources has
led to numerous joint efforts that have
enhanced the state of remediation. Since its
creation, TIO has worked with many
partners inside EPA, in other federal
agencies, and in the private sector to improve
the nation's understanding of characterization
and remediation technologies and to eliminate
impediments to their widespread use.
 Background
Taking a streamlined approach, TIO created
this update of the Innovative Remediation
 and Site Characterization Technologies
Resources CD-ROM as a tool for personnel
of federal, state, and local agencies, as well
as personnel of private sector environmental
consulting firms and industry. Using it, they
have quick access to information about
 innovative remediation and site
 characterization technologies.
 Publications
The publications included on the CD-ROM
 provide information about:
^J9 The availability of technology resources
in the form of bibliographies, status
   reports, and case studies
s^ The application of innovative technolo-
gies to specific contaminants and site
types in the form of survey reports
fy Specific innovative technologies and the
   application of those technologies to
media in the form of engineering analy-
   ses, application reports, technology
   verification and evaluation reports, and
   technology reviews
v^.' The availability of technology resources
in the form of descriptions of programs
   and initiatives related to innovative
   technologies conducted by EPA and
   other organizations
 Internet Sources of
 Information
The CD-ROM also provides users with
access to additional sources of information
 about innovative remediation and site
 characterization technologies on the
Internet through a series of interactive links.
