Be a
Common-Sense
On this 25th anniversary of Earth Day, EPA reminds
parents and children, communities and companies to
take a hands-on approach to environmental protec-
tion. Let's all take these common sense steps to
promote a cleaner and healthier environment:
Do all you can to keep your home, school, and neighborhood clean — get rid of trash,
recycle glass, plastic and metal containers, and care for plants and animals.
Save energy and water - turn the thermostat to 68 degrees in the winter and 72 degrees
in the summer, and turn off the water faucet when you are not using it.
Buy products made from recycled materials. When possible, buy products in bulk
which means less packaging, and less waste.
Ask questions about the environment and find out what you can do to help — ask your
teachers, parents, public officials, and librarians to help you learn more. Learning
more about science and math today can help you better understand the environment
around you.
Ask questions about the environment to get others to help. Your questions can help
other kids and adults rethink the way their habits affect our health and our environment.
Remind adults to take these common-sense steps, at home, at the office, and in your
neighborhood. We need every American's help to protect the earth for you and for
generations to come.
In the 25 years since the first Earth Day, kids all over the country have helped us achieve a lot of
progress. But much more needs to be done. Take a hands-on approach to environmental protection...
