Background and Purpose
In a national study involving site vists to 287 POTWs the
predominant factors causing poor plant performance were
found to fall in four major categories: administration,
design, operation, and maintenance. A major conclusion
of this study was that each POTW usually has a number of
performance-limiting problems that are unique to that
facility.
A program that effectively eliminates all performance-
limiting factors at an individual POTW has been developed
and demonstrated. It is called the Composite Correction
Program (CCP) because it brings together the positive
features of many individual programs to correct all the
specific performance-limiting problems identified at a
plant. The CCP approach consists of an evaluation phase
and a performance improvement phase.
The evaluation phase is a thorough review and analysis of
a POTWs design capabilities and associated administra-
tion, operation, and maintenance practices. Its objective is
to detemine if significant improvements in treatment can
be achieved without making major captial expenditures.
This objective is accomplished by assessing the capability
of major unit processes and by identifying and prioritizing
those factors that limit performance and can be corrected
to improve performance
The performance improvement phase eliminates those
factors that limit performance in existing POTWs.
This series of seminars will cover, in detail, implementa-
tion of CCP programs to improve POTW performance.
Separate workshop sessions will be conducted on the
evaluation and performance improvement phases. Princi-
pal speakers for the seminars will be Bob A. Hegg, Kerwin
L. Rakness, and Robert C Renner of Process Applications,
Inc., Fort Collins, CO
Registration and Hotel Information
There is no registration fee and you may register for any
one of the ten seminars. We recommend, however, that
you choose the seminar to be given in your EPA region
since both regional and State personnel will be participa-
ting in the sessions. Since attendance will be strictly
limited due to the workshop nature of the program,
register early and indicate on the registration form three
choices in order of preference (1 st, 2nd, 3rd). For further
information, contact Ms. Sheri Marshall, Seminar Coordi-
nator, (301} 468-2500.
Arrangements have been made for a block of rooms at
each hotel where seminars are to be held. Special rates
are available to seminar attendees. Reservations should
be made directly with the hotel and you must state that you
are attending the EPA seminar to receive the special guest
room rate.
