Background and Purpose
More than 1 ,300 municipal and industrial wastewater treatment
facilities in the U.S. now use fine pore aeration. The technology
remains relatively new in North America and new materials and
configurations continue to be developed. In 1985, the U.S. En-
vironmental Protection Agency, in cooperation with the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), undertook a
major study to evaluate fine pore diffused aeration in both
clean and process waters, including conducting field studies
at a number of municipal wastewater treatment facilities
employing fine pore aeration. A new EPA Technology
Transfer design manual on fine pore aeration will be
published this year.

This seminar series is cosponsored by EPA and ASCE and
is based on the new Technology Transfer manual. It will
provide designers, end users, and regulators with information
on the nature of the fine pore aeration devices; design, cost,
and performance data; and related O&M requirements to
promote the intelligent application of this technology. The
seminar is not designed for those who have no working
knowledge of wastewater treatment technology.
Registration
There is no registration fee and you may register for any one
of the three seminars. We recommend, however, that you choose
the seminar to be given closest to your EPA region since both
regional and State personnel will be participating in the sessions.
Attendance is limited so register early. A confirmation letter will
be sent to all registrants. For further information contact Ms.
Karen Natsios, Seminar Coordinator, 617-648-7810.
Hotel Information
Arrangements have been made for a block of rooms at each
hotel where seminars are to be held. Special rates are available
to seminar attendees. Make your reservations directly with the
hotel and mention that you are attending the EPA seminar to
receive the special guest room rate. Please note the cutoff date
for obtaining the special rate listed below.
