     for Onsite Wastewater Treatment and Disposal
     Systems, originally published in 1980. The 1980 manual
has been a standard reference for onsite program managers,
designers, installers, and others involved in the management
and design of these systems. The new manual provides the
latest information about the management, siting, design,
installation, maintenance, monitoring, and replacement of
decentralized wastewater systems (commonly known as septic
systems). New emphasis is placed on the use of a performance-
based approach, site evaluation procedures, and treatment
system selection. Fact sheets on alternative technologies are
also included.
