This is an alphabetical listing of contractors that have completed the requirements of the EPA
Radon Contractor Proficiency (RCP) Program. It includes both those contractors who have
specifically indicated that they will provide such services in Kansas as well as those contractors
in adjacent states (Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska) who provide such services
nationwide.
This list is provided to assist home owners in identifying contractors who provide radon mitigation
services in Kansas. No endorsement or recommendation of any of the contractors is expressed or
implied.

1. INTRODUCTION
The primary objective of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) efforts to
address the indoor radon problem is to reduce radon levels in buildings throughout the
country. Achieving this objective requires a nationwide supply of capable radon mitigation
contractors. In the Indoor Radon Abatement Act of 1988, Congress authorized EPA to
establish a program to evaluate radon mitigation contractors and to provide this information
to the public in cooperation with the States.
The Radon Contractor Proficiency (RCP) Program was developed to assist States, EPA
Regions, local government officials, and the public in selecting contractors who have
demonstrated their proficiency in reducing indoor radon levels. This program is managed by
the EPA Office of Radiation Programs' Radon Division. Under this voluntary program, radon
contractors demonstrate their proficiency by meeting specific Program requirements.
Individual contractors who meet these requirements are then listed in the Report.
2. LISTING IN THE PROFICIENCY REPORT - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
This report lists those individual contractors who have met the requirements of the RCP
Program as of January 31, 1995. These requirements are designed to provide minimum
proficiency criteria for individuals who design and supervise the installation of radon
mitigation systems in buildings.
The RCP Program measures the proficiency of an individual contractor, not their company.
Therefore, users of this report who select a mitigation firm should ensure that the services
are provided by the listed contractor.
The National RCP Program does not accredit mitigation contractors, nor does it certify,
recommend, or endorse participating companies. Only the listed contractor, not their
company of affiliation, are deemed proficient. The inclusion of a contractor in this report
should not be interpreted as a certification or accreditation of the individual or affiliated
company.
States and the public are advised to use only those contractors who are currently listed and
continue to meet all of the program's requirements as outlined in Section 3. A proficient
mitigator can be identified by their RCP photo identification card. A sample of this card is
shown in Exhibit 1. The RCP identification number can be used to verify a contractor's
current status in the program, or to report any problems or deficiencies to the State
contacts. When using listed mitigation contractors, consumers should verify that the
contractor has kept his/her proficiency status current by checking the expiration date on the
contractor's RCP identification card. The Report will be updated several times a year.

The EPA Radon Contractor Proficiency (RCP) Program
evaluates the proficiency of radon mitigation contractors.
This voluntary program does not accredit certify, recom-
mend, or endorse listed contractors, nor is it responsible
for work done, or liability incurred by the contractor.
Contractors must pass a written examination, keep rec-
ords on mitigation work, adhere to mitigation guidelines,
complete continuing education requirements, pass a
reexamination every two years and maintain a current
listing on the RCP National Radon Contractor Proficiency
List To verify current listing orto report problems, please
call your State Department of Health or Environmental
Protection.

3. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
The RCP is a voluntary program, consisting of several elements which collectively help to
ensure the proficiency of radon mitigation contractors. In order to demonstrate proficiency
and be listed in the Report, contractors must fulfill certain requirements:
• Training - the contractor must complete at least two days of EPA-
approved, hands-on training. Training is available through EPA
Regional Radon Training Centers (listed in the Preface) and other
approved training providers. Contact the Radon Information Service at
(334) 272-2797 for more information.
• National Exam - a contractor's knowledge of the major areas
(domains) of mitigation practice is evaluated through a comprehensive
written national exam (see Exhibit 2). There are six exam domains:
Evaluation
Diagnosis
Selection Strategy
Implementation Strategy
System Evaluation
Ethics
• Record Keeping and Inspection - the contractor must maintain records on the
mitigation system he or she has installed.
• Radon Mitigation Standards - the contractor must adhere to minimum
performance standards. The public may wish to use these standards as a basis
for comparing service bids by contractors. "Radon Mitigation Standards",
EPA 402-R-93-078, October 1993 (Revised April 1994), copies available from
the Radon Information Service (334) 272-2797 or write to SC&A, Radon
Information Center, 1355 Beverly Road, Suite 216, McLean, VA 22101.
• Continuing Education - the contractor is strongly recommended to
take over a two-year period sixteen (16) hours of coursework,
conferences, symposia, workshops, seminars, or other radon-related
activities. This will facilitate professional development and provide the
opportunity to remain well-informed on current radon mitigation
practices and procedures.
• Biennial Re-exam - the contractor will be evaluated by written
examination every two years on their knowledge of changes in
technology, regulations, protocols, and other radon subjects. Updated
ID cards will be issued to contractors upon passage of the re-
examination.
• User Fee - the contractor shall pay an annual user fee.

DESCRIPTION OF EXAM DOMAINS
1. Evaluate
Review the radon measurement history by evaluating past test results in
order to determine if there is need for further action.
2. Diagnose
Identify the radon entry routes by visually inspecting the structure and by
using diagnostic tests. This information can be used for designing a
mitigation system or for troubleshooting system failures.
3. Selection Strategy
Select a mitigation strategy by reviewing relevant data and by considering
the client's requirements, industry standards and practices, and mitigation
alternatives (along with their relative costs and benefits), in order to reduce
radon levels.
Develop a detailed mitigation design (including the type, size, and location
of the system, and any necessary equipment) within the constraints of the
building's construction, building codes, and other relevant factors that could
affect the system's performance.
4. Implementation Strategy
Implement the mitigation system design by correctly installing the equipment
and by making structural alterations and/or repairs as necessary in order to
reduce radon levels.
5. System Evaluation
Check the operation of the system by performing appropriate tests.
Arrange for proper system maintenance and follow-up by educating the
client to ensure continued system functioning and effectiveness.
6. Ethics
Adhere to the highest standards of business and ethical practice and
respect the privacy rights of clients.
-------
4. RADON MITIGATION STANDARDS
The document by the same name (EPA 402-R-93-078) published by the USEPA in
October 1993 (revised April 1994) provides radon mitigation contractors with uniform
standards that will ensure quality and effectiveness in the design, installation, and evaluation
of radon mitigation systems in detached and attached residential buildings three stories or
less in height. The RMS is intended to serve as a model set of requirements which can be
adopted or modified"by state and local jurisdictions to fulfill objectives of their specific radon
contractor certification or licensure programs. To obtain a copy of this booklet, contact the
Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment, Radon Program at (913) 296-6183.
