The ohjccth'es of this st.ud:.- ','ere to determine thE'
total quantities of the varIOUS air polllitants emitted and to
estimate their seasonal and geographical variation. To accomplish
this task, the study area ~as divided into a grid coordinat~ system,
and the emission quantities were reported in terms of tons of
pollutant per grid ,for a su~ner, winter, and average day.

repTesent the, average emission rates for a particulaT industr;.' or

Because of the inherent differences in type of equip-

or fuel users within a gi,veD category, thcapplication of the
emission factors to any individual plant or even a smaller nu~bcr
of similar plants or processes may result in a discTepancy bet~een
the actual and the estimated emissions.

Since transportation sources are .by far t~e

logical that at and near the city ofPitt$burgh carbon monoxide
