CD ^ •n o •^ # About Air CHIEF CD-ROM As a part of its commitment to protecting global air quality, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working to provide current emis- sions data in convenient, easy-to-access formats to Federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, businesses, and the general public. An important tool in this effort is the Air Clearinghouse for In- ventories and Emission Factors (Air CHIEF) CD- ROM. The Air CHIEF CD-ROM provides access to air emission data for pollutants that may be emitted from a wide variety of sources. Air CHIEF offers literally thousands of pages contained in some of EPA's most widely used and requested docu- ments. Additionally, Air CHIEF provides quick and easy access to several air emission estimation System Requirements The minimum requirements to run Air CHIEFare an IBM-compatible PC with at least a 486 processor (pentium or better is recommended), 4 megabytes of RAM, and 12MB hard disk space. Air CHIEF requires a CD-ROM drive and is supported under the Microsoft Windows!8 95,98, NT 3.51 or 4.0 environments. Files on the Air CHIEF CD-ROM can be read on UNIX or Macintosh systems using the Acrobat8Reader9 appropriate for these systems, but technical support will not be provided for these systems. S. Environmental Protection Agency ------- Documents, Software & Tools Available on Air CHIEF 7 The Air CHIEF CD-ROM consolidates onto one disk a collection of air pollutant and emission source information from U.S. EPA Emission Factor and Inventory Group (EFIG) reports and databases. emission factors emission inventories AP-42 Volume I: The Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors, Volume I (AP-42), contains emission — factors and descriptions of activities that produce criteria and toxic pollutant emissions for most stationary point and area sources. Includes Supplements A, B, C, D and E and AP-42 Background Files. FIRE 6.22: The Factor Information REtrieval Data System (FIRE), version 6.22, is a database system containing EPA's recommended criteria and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emission estimation factors. The FIRE data files include emission factors for criteria pollutants (CO, SO2, NOX, Lead, VOCs and PM-10) and Haz- ardous Air Pollutants (HAP) for both stationary and mobile sources. AP-42 Volume II, Tables G-K: The EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality's' Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors, Volume II (AP- 42), contains extensive highway vehicle and nonroad mobile source emission factor information. L & E Documents*: Locating & Estimating Emissions For Sources Of (L & E) documents provide information on specific toxic air pollutants and related source categories. Each document contains guidelines concerning one specific air toxic pollutant or source and includes general process descriptions, potential release points, and emission factors. * EPA recommends that users first refer to the National Toxics Inventory (NTI) documentation for the most recent toxics information. Several portions of older L&E documents have been revised in the NTI documentation. EIIP Documents: The Emission Inventory Improvement Program (EIIP) provides guidance on the development of cost-effective, reliable inventories. EIIP documents present preferred and alternative methods for estimating air emissions for many point, area, mobile, and biogenic source categories. EIIP guidance supplements and complements AP-42. Included in this update is Volume VIII, Greenhouse Gases. National Toxics Inventory: The National Toxics Inventory (NTI) is a national repository of inventory data and estimated emissions for hazardous air pol- lutants (HAPs) and their sources. The 1996 base year NTI provides support for air quality modelers and other risk assessment specialists. New Inventory Documents! Handbook for Inventory Development for Criteria Pollutants and Air Toxics Emissions Inventory Guidance for Implementation of Ozone and Particulate Matter NAAQS and Regional Haze Regulations National Air Pollutant Emission Trends Update, 1970-1997 National Air Pollutant Emission Trends Procedures SCC, AMS, SIC & NAICS Codes Source Classification Codes (SCC) indicate the industrial process or function within a source category that is associated with a point of air emissions. Area Mobile Source (AMS) codes classify mobile or area sources. Air CHIEF also includes the 1997 North American Indus- trial Classification System (NAICS) codes, which have been matched to the 1987 U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. emission estimation software tools SPECIATE 3.0 for Windows®: Contains organic compound and paniculate matter (PM) speciation profiles for more than 300 source types. SPECIATE contains 262 new TOC profiles and 13 new PM profiles. BEIS 2.3: The PC version of the Biogenic Emissions Inventory System, allows users to estimate hourly emissions of biogenic volatile organic compound and soil nitrogen oxide emissions for any county in the contiguous United States. PMCALC: A calculator program applicable to point sources. This program calculates controlled emissions for PM-2.5 and PM-10. CHEM 9: A compound properties processor based upon an EPA compound database. It provides the ability to estimate compound properties, including the compound volatility and the theoretical recovery (fraction measured (Fm)) for EPA test methods 25D and 305. CHEM DATS: A Lotus 1 -2-3* spreadsheet prepared by EPA's Emission Standards Division that includes analytical models for estimating VOCs from treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF) processes. WATERS: Menu-driven computer software for estimating emissions from wastewater treatment systems. Air CHIEF is available to Federal, state, and local agencies by calling the Info CH/EFhelp desk.
