Why
      be concerned about indoor
air pollution?
Today, most Americans spend as much as 90%
of their time indoors — inside their homes and
schools, in office buildings, stores, and other
spaces. Because of the ways we construct and
operate our buildings, and the materials we use
inside, the air indoors can contain higher levels
of some air pollutants than the air outdoors.

Many indoor air problems can be easily pre-
vented, or fixed once the problem is recog-
nized. EPA believes that providing easy access
to information about indoor air pollution
sources and solutions will help lower people's
exposure to indoor pollutants that may jeopar-
dize their health.
 What
         is the Indoor Air Quality
 Information Clearinghouse
 (IAQ INFO)?
The IAQ INFO is an easily accessible, central
source of information on indoor air quality,
created and supported by the U.S. Environmen-
tal Protection Agency (EPA). As concern about
air pollution indoors has grown, so has the
amount of information on this subject; but get-
ting current, useful information can be a chal-
lenging task. The purpose of the IAQ INFO is
to help you locate information to answer your
 questions about indoor air pollution.

About
IAQ INFO:
IAQ INFO is funded by the Indoor Air
Division, Office of Air and Radiation, EPA.
The mission of EPA's indoor air program is
to reduce the threat to human health posed by
indoor air pollution. EPA works to accomplish
this by conducting research on indoor air
pollution and control measures, devising risk
      management approaches, and communicating
what is known about indoor air problems and
      solutions.
