$258 MILLION FUNDED
IN MAY
45 STATES AND PUERTO
RICO AWARDED STATE
MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE
GRANTS
37 STATES/TERRITORIES
HAVE WOMP GRANTS
EPA approved 350 grants totaling $257.6 million in May.
Total grant dollars awarded through May of FY 83
increased $1.0 billion when compared to the same period of
FY 82.  ($1.7 billion compared to $0.7 billion).  (p. 8.)

Since April 1980, EPA awarded State Management Assistance grants
totaling $363 million to 45 states and one territory (Puerto
Rico). These grants provide funds for states to employ staff to
administer segments of the WWT Construction Grants program delegated
to them by EPA.  (p. 20.)

Since October 1981, EPA awarded 37 States and/or Territories
$18.5 million for Water Ouality Management Planning in accordance
with Section 205 (j) of the Clean Water Act.  (p.22.)

The Administrator shall reserve each fiscal "year- 1 per centum,  or  SIO.0,000 which-
ever amount Is greater, of the sums allotted'-1 and available  for obligation to each
State under Sec. 205 (j) of the Clean Water Act for each fiscal year beginning
on or after October 1, 1981, for grants for Water Duality Management planning.
