Grants Highlights
$429 MILLION FUNDED
IN DECEMBER
49 STATES AND PUERTO
RICO AWARDED STATE
MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE
GRANTS
51 STATES/TERRITORIES
HAVE WQMP GRANTS
EPA approved 303 grants totaling $428.9 million in
December. Total grant dollars awarded during the
first quarter of FY84 increased $240.3 million
($637.4 million compared to $397.1) during the same
period of FY83. (p. 7.)
Since April 1980, EPA awarded State Management Assistance
grants totaling $428 million to 49 states and one
territory (Puerto Rico). These grants provide funds for
states to employ staff to administer segments of the WUT
Construction Grants program delegated to them by EPA.

Since October 1981, EPA awarded 51 states and/or
terrirories $33.2 million for Water Quality Management
Planning in accordance with Section 205(j) of the
Clean Water Act. (p. 20.)
48 STATES/TERRITORIES Since June 1983, EPA awarded 47 states and Puerto Rico
AWARDED RCRA/SUPERFUND Superfund awards for State Inventory programs as
AWARDS authorized under Section 3012 of the P^esource Conser-
vation and Recovery Act. (p. 24.)

ever amount is greater, of the sums allotted and available for obligation to each
State under Sec. 205 (j) of the Clean Water Act for each fiscal year beginning
