Protecting and reclaiming the environment and its life-
supporting systems is the mission of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency. EPA's 8 major laws mount an integrated
attack on environmental pollution in cooperation with state
and local governments. These mandates encompass a broad
range of environmental concerns—air and water quality, solid
waste management, pesticides, toxic substances, radiation
and noise.

A public aware of environmental problems and solutions is
important in the battle against pollution. As part of its
program to inform the public EPA makes shows available
within the United States on a free-loan and rental basis.

Scores of American towns and cities are faced Modern
with the need to build or augment new water Talking
treatment systems, an important but usually Picture
expensive part of America's crusade for clean Service, Inc.
water, required by federal law. Water Passages
strongly suggests that there are better and far
less expensive types of systems than those
typically in use in the majority of municipalities.
The concept of land application is at the heart of
these effective, low-cost approaches. While
not universally workable, the idea is one which
should be considered by any community
wishing to treat wastewater safely at a low-
cost.

Clean water is something we all need and National
cleaning our lakes and streams is a national Audiovisual
goal. Money is available in the form of grants Center
for building of municipal wastewater treatment
facilities. Unfortunately many cities and towns
are not taking advantage of this money. This
film shows what steps are necessary to receive
these funds and details what individuals can do
to ensure cleaner water.
