EPA 910/9-90-006 &EFA United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 10 1200 Sixth Avenue Seattle W A 98101 Alaska Idaho Oregon Washington Air & Toxics Division Pesticides Branch Certification and Training Resource Manual A Resource Information Guide ------- Certification and Training Resource Material A Resource Information Guide EPA Region 10 Prepared by. Glenn Shannon EPA Region 10 Pesticide and Toxic Substance Branch ------- Acknowledgements I would like to thank the many State Cooperative Extension Services throughout the country that have willingly supplied training manuals, extension bulletins and fact sheets for the EPA Region 10, Pesticide Section Library. I would also like to thank those state cooperative extension pesticide coordinators that have aided me in collecting the various resource publications from sources other than their own. The information in this guide is by no means complete. Updating of existing training aids by cooperative extension and private organizations is an ongoing thing. When training aids sponsored by a private organization have shown to be useful in the certification and training of applicators they have been included in this guide. If a particular publication has been omitted I am sorry. If you know of a resource or training aid that will be useful to C&T programs, and it is not included in this guide, please inform Region 10 Pesticide Section, and we will request a copy to add to the certification and training library. From time to time this directory will be updated and new information will be included in the next revision. ------- Table of Contents Introduction ii How to use the Directory iii Chapter 1 Certification and Training Reference Materials by Subject 1 Chapter 2 Certification and Training Reference Material by Supplier 19 ------- Introduction A common problem that many state certification programs seem to face is the availability of new or updated reference manuals, fact sheets, slide sets and video training aids. Publications such as the PNW Insect Handbook, PNW Weed Handbook, the PNW Plant Disease Handbook and certain other bulletins are maintained on a regular basis. Unfortunately many manuals, bulletins, fact sheets, slide sets and videos that are currently being used in state certification and training programs are not. The following list of resource literature and training aids are available from a variety of sources in the Pacific Northwest as well as organizations across the country. Training aids for certification programs are available from various State Cooperative Extension Services, State Departments of Agriculture, other public agencies or private organizations. The following information has been compiled to familiarize you with current training aids that are available and their source of supply. If information found in this resource guide helps strengthen a pesticide certification category then it will have completed its mission. The information is arranged into two chapters. Chapter 1, Certification and Training material by subject and Chapter 2, Certification and Training material by supplier. Chapter 1 alphabetically lists certification and training material by subject. Under each subject title are listed one or more training aids that are available for that subject. Each line includes the title of the training aid and ( / ) the name of the supplier to contact when ordering copies of the material. Chapter 2 alphabetically lists states or organizations that offer certification training aids. The title of the training material and where possible the type of aid are indicated, ie a book, a fact sheet, a slide set or a video. The cost of the training aid is indicated when available. Prices may change and you should contact each supplier for current information. The current mailing address is listed for each supply organization to aid you in ordering a specific training material. When available the organizations contact person, that is the person responsible for developing training material, has been listed. In all cases the contact person has been most helpful in supplying literature or other information about their state certification and training program. This list is by no means complete. Copies of many of the listed publications are in the region 10 Pesticide Program library. Unfortunately the regional budget does not allow for the purchase of this type material. Where cost limited the procurement of aids such as; printed material, slide sets or video tapes; their titles have been listed even though the item may not be in the library. n ------- How to use the Directory The directory has been divided into two chapters. Chapter 1 alphabetically lists training aids by subject title. Following the subject title will be listed one or more training aids. Chapter 2 alphabetically lists suppliers or training aids that are used in state certification programs or aids that can be added to a program to strengthen it. you need a training aid for the subject fire, turn to Fire in Chapter 1.
