Region 10 Air Pollution Executive Summary 1992 ------- EPA REGION 10 AIR QUALITY STATUS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1992 Principal Author William Puckett Computer Specialist and Environmental Scientist Quality Assurance and Data Management Program Environmental Services Division U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 10 Direct questions of comments to: William Puckett ES-097 U.S. EPA Region 10 1200 6th Avenue Seattle, Washington 98101 August, 1993 ------- Introduction This report provides a map depiction of areas (by city) in Region 10 with respect to attainment/nonattainment of air quality standards based on air monitoring data. This report should not be used as substitute, but as a supplement to the official nonattainment area maps. The results of this analysis could be used to assess the current status of air pollution attainment/nonattainment designations in Region 10. All monitor sites stored in the Aerometric Information Retrieval System (AIRS) were used in this analysis. Exceptional event data were also included in this report. Exceptional events are events which do not occur regularly and which can cause high pollutant concentrations (e.g. volcanoes, fires etc. ). In Region 10 many of the exceptional events flagged in the AIRS system are under review and the flags may be removed. Exceptional event data are used in mitigation strategies for cleaning up air quality problems, but they are treated separately from other data. This report does not treat exceptional events separately, but it includes all data points. This analysis includes the criteria pollutants which are regulated through the Clean Air Act (CAA). Maps for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are not included because there are few sites and there are no known or suspected NO2 problems in Region 10. A more detailed analysis will also be produced which shows separate graphic displays for each monitor. Copies of this report will be available on request. ------- PM10 Technical Attainment Test 1992 Map is based on average number of expected PM10 exceedances for each monitor for the past three years Source of data is the EPA AIRS System. 0 50 «0 W) 200 250 300 ses Mies Scale 1:11000000 &IEFK EPA Region 10 — Seattle Geographic information Section Wi II iam Puckelt OB/17/93 ------- PM10 Technical Attainment Test 1992 Map is based on average number of expected PM10 excaedancea for each monitor for the past three yeara Source of data ie the EPA AIRS System.
