INTRODUCTION
Pesticides are regulated primarily under the Federal
Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), but several
other statutes administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) also include requirements which apply to pesticides.
To aid in the development of a strategy to address the problem
of pesticides in ground water, the Office of Ground-Water
Protection and the Office of Pesticide Programs collaborated
on a project to prepare a summary of how pesticides are
covered by several EPA statutes related to ground-water
protection.
The summary is organized alphabetically by the approximately
600 pesticide active ingredients. In addition to FIFRA,
statutes for which information is included are the Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Safe Drinking Water Act
(SDWA), and Clean Water Act (CWA).
The summary was prepared under contract to EPA by SRA
Technologies, Inc. Donna Fletcher of the Office of Ground-Water
Protection served as project manager, and many individuals
throughout EPA assisted in reviewing and updating the information,

Office of Pesticide Programs who coordinated the extensive
