NORWAY. AS CITED IN THIS ARTICLE. 870.000 PEOPLE STATED THAT THEY WERE DISTURBED BY TRAFFIC NOISE,
ABOUT 70.000 BY AIRPLANE NOISE. AND 18.000 BY NOISE FROM INDUSTRY. 82 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION
INDICATED THAT THEY WERE NOT BOTHERED BY NOISE AROUND THEIR LIVING QUARTERS. THE STATISTICS ALSO

FEDERAL DIET. THE CITIES OF WAHN IN THE DISTRICT OF ASCHENDORF-LUEMMLING. LICHTENMOOR IN THE
DISTRICT OF FALLINGBOSTEL. AND LUTTERLOH IN THE DISTRICT OF CELLE. WERE RECOMMENDED FROM THE 26
POTENTIAL SITES INVESTIGATED. ThE DISPOSAL CENTER IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE POINT FOR THE DISPOSAL AND
REPROCESSING OF WASTES FROM NUCLEAR REACTORS. SEVERAL ECONOMIC AND TECHNICAL PROBLEMS REMAIN TO
BE SOLVED IN REGARD TO THE CENTER. SOME EXPERTS BELIEVE GAPS IN TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE WILL
PREVENT THE CENTER'S BEGINNING OPERATION BY 1988. THE CHEMICAL AND ELECTRIC ENERGY INDUSTRIES
ARE CURRENTLY UNWILLING TO FINANCE THE REPROCESSING OF USED NUCLEAR FUEL. SINCE IT IS NOT

ENERGY PRODUCED BY PYRCLYSIS SHOULD BE USED FOR REMOTE HEATING SYSTEMS RATHER THAN FOR ELECTRICITY
PRODUCTION. SINCE THE AVAILABLE ECONOMIC DATA ARE INCOMPLETE AND UNRELIABLE. IT IS RECOGNIZED
THAT FURTHER RESEARCH IS NEEDED. PYROLYSIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE A REALISTIC ALTERNATIVE IN LARGER
MUNICIPALITIES IN NORWAY. THE FIRST PYROLYSIS INSTALLATION IN EUROPE HAS ALMOST BEEN COMPLETED IN

THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS RELATED TO PHYTOPLANKTON CONDUCTED DURING
1966-1973 AT SAMPLING STATIONS IN THE FOUR LARGE BASINS OF LAKE HJALMAREN. THE FOLLOWING
OBSERVATION WERE MADE: THE CONCENTRATION OF NUTRIENTS SHOW DECREASING VALUES FROM WEST TO EAST
WITH THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATION AROUND THE INDUSTRIAL CITY OF OREBRO; ALL BIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS
COULD BE RELATED TO THE DIFFERENCES IN NUTRIENT LOADING IN THE LAKE; A TOTAL OF 330 PHYTOPLANKTON
SPECIES WERE FOUND; THE PHYTOPLANKTON BIOMASSES SHOWED A HORIZONTAL VARIATION SIMILAR TO THE
NUTRIENTS; THE CORRELATION BETWEEN CHLOROPHYLL *A* CONCENTRATION AND THE TOTAL PHYTOPLANKTON
VOLUME SHOWED A MODERATELY STRONG RELATIONSHIP. THE PAPER ALSO DISCUSSES MASS DEVELOPING ALGAE
AND RELATED PROBLEMS. COMPARES ITS PHYTOPLANKTON COMPOSITION DATA WITH DATA FROM PREVIOUS
INVESTIGATIONS. AND PREDICTS THAT PHOSPHORUS PRECIPITATION FROM THE OREBRO SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
WILL DECREASE PHVTOPLANKTON BIOMASSES AND LIMIT WATERBLOOM, PARTICULARLY IN THE WESTERN BASINS.

PERMISSION ARE: THE DIRECT OR INDIRECT INTRODUCTION INTO WATER OF SOLID. LIQUID OR GASEOUS
SUBSTANCES; THE USE OF WATER POWER; LAKE REGULATION; DAMMING RIVERS OR STREAMS; CANAL CONSTRUCTION;
LAYING PIPES IN WATER; MECHANICAL CLEANING OF RIVER OR STREAM BEDS; QUARRYING OR WASHING GRAVEL.
SAND AND OTHER SUBSTANCES IN WATER; EXTRACTION OR RETURN OF WATER: ANY SORT OF WATER DIVERSION;
AGRICULTURAL DRAINAGE AND IRRIGATION; STREET CONSTRUCTION; AND OPERATION OF FISH BREEDING
FACILITIES. THE PERMIT MAY PRESCRIBE MEASURES FOR THE PROTECTION OF FISHING INTERESTS. PENALTIES
FOR DAMAGE FROM WATER POLLUTION ARE TO BE IMPOSED UNDER THE 1971 WATER PROTECTION LAW.

OF ALL URBAN POPULATIONS SHOULD BE SUPPLIED WITH SAFE WATER. THE ARTICLE FURTHER NOTES THAT THE
PROVISION OF SANITARY EXCRETA DISPOSAL FACILITIES HAS MADE LESS SATISFACTORY PROGRESS THAN THE
PROVISION OF WATER SUPPLIES. SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE FOR REGIONAL TARGETS FOR THE END OF THE DECADE.
