MEMORANDUM: OERR 9200.4-04

SUBJECT: Coordination of the Distribution of Advance Copies of
Superfund Publications - Superfund ^Management Review
            Implementation Product

FROM: Henry L. Longest II, Director
            Office of Emergency and

TO: OERR Staff

PURPOSE: The purpose of this memorandum is to request
your cooperation in centralizing the coordination of advance
copies of OERR publications.

BACKGROUND: As a result of the 90-day study and our
ongoing effort to improve publications management and general
access, many new documents are entering the pipeline, and a large
workload is anticipated for FY-90. These publications are
frequently long awaited by our constituencies. To enable us to
respond appropriately, it is very important that OERR management
and the Superfund Documents Coordinator (SDC) have access to all
documents as soon as they come off the press. This will ensure
that information about advance copies, inventories and public
availability is handled uniformly.

IMPLEMENTATION: The SDC will serve as the focal point
for this process. It is the responsibility of the document
originator to contact Betti VanEpps (475-8864) when advance
copies are received. This will allow the necessary coordination
that ensures that advance copies go where they are most needed,
and that supplies shipped from Cincinnati can be handled
expeditiously. The SDC should also be provided with sufficient
advance copies to handle the immediate information flow to key
managers. A procedure for the orderly management of the initial
information flow of documents into the distribution process is a
key link in dERR's communication strategy and is reflected in the
Superfund 90-Day Study Recommendation Number 47.B, Timely and
Accurate Dissemination of Information.
