As a component of the Global Environmental
Information Exchange Programme of the
United Nations Environment Programme,
INFOTERRA/USA responds to requests for
information on environmental topics.
The service addresses two specific needs:
• assisting international users in
understanding U.S. environmental policy,
status, and trends; and
• assisting domestic users in gathering
information about the state of the
environment around the world.

documents, referrals, and
citations to environmental
information from a
variety of sources.
INFOTERRA provides answers to inquiries through
U.S. Government documents, technical reporrs,
database searches and bibliographies. II necessary,
referrals are made to the government agency,
international organization, information
clearinghouse, or environmental expert besr able to
respond to each information request.

in over 175 different countries
• EPA and commercial database searches
• EPA documents and resources
• Other U.S. Government documents,
publications, and resources
• Referrals to individuals and
organizations working on specific
environmental issues in the U.S.
Assist international visitors by:
• Conducting tours ot EPA Information
facilities
• Guiding research using resources in the
Washington, DC area
• Providing demonstrations ol searches of selected environmental databases

UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT
PROGRAMME'S
INFOTERRA NETWORK
INFOTERRA is designed to serve as a global
gateway to information needed to solve
environmental problems around the world.
The INFOTERRA network is comprised of:
National Focal Points (NFPs)
Network of over 175 participating nations sponsor
access points where the public can seek answers to
environmental questions. NFPs can draw on the
resources of network partners to most efficiently
respond to questions.
Regional Sendee Centers (RSCs)
RSCs assist NFPs in a geographical regions by
providing database searches, promoting
communication and offering training and support
where needed.
Special Sectoral Sources (SSS)
Recognized experts in areas of environmental studies
who provide custom research on issues of special
environmental priority.
Programme Activity Centre (PAC)
Located at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya,
the PAC coordinates network activities and
promotion, provides training and assistance to
NFPs, and publishes a network bulletin as well as
other publications as needed.
