THE INFORMATION BROKER EPA Headquarters Library 3825922 HOFFMAN'S HIGHLIGHTS USERS SURVEY The library staff would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent survey. We invite comments about library resources and services on a continuing basis. Ask at the Reference Desk for a Library Services Evaluation Form. DO YOUR OWN DATABASE SEARCHING Did you know that library users can actually do their own database searches? In addition to the Hazardous Waste database, we have developed a Contacts database with information on EPA hotlines, clearinghouses, dockets and similar organizations. Both databases are available for user searching on a PC in the front of the library. We also have several databases in compact disk (CD-Rom) format: MEDLINE, NTIS and Books in Print Plus. These disks contain selected years of the database, including citations and abstracts, with user- friendly menus to assist with the searches. Ask at the Reference Desk if you are interested. RCRA, SUPERFUND AND UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS DOCKETS MOVE The RCRA Information Center, Superfund Docket and Underground Storage Tanks Docket have moved from the SE sub-basement to Room 2427M. ANSWER: Newly appointed EPA Administrator, William Kane Reilly, has devoted most of his working life to conservation and environmental issues, most recently as President of the Conservation Foundation and World Wildlife Fund. Mr. Reilly was born in Decatur, Illinois, in 1940. He received a B.A. from Yale University, a law degree from Harvard Law School and a master's degree in urban planning from Columbia University. The Administrator practiced law in Chicago before joining the Army in 1966. In 1986 he became Associate Director of the Urban Policy Center, Urban America, Inc. and the National Urban Coalition. From 1970-72 he was a senior staff member of the President's Council on Environmental Quality, followed by a stint as Executive Director of the Task Force on Land Use and Urban Growth, which produced a popular report, The Use of Lane/that went through three printings. In 1973 he became President of the Conservation Foundation, which merged with the World Wildlife Fund in 1985. In addition, he is Vice-President of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, on the Board of Directors of .Clean Sites, Inc., Winrock International Center for Agricultural Development, and American Farmland Trust, and a member of Concern, Inc. and the U.S. Citizen's Advisory Committee to Habitat. In 1984 he was awarded the Horace Albright Medal for "outstanding contribution to the national parks", and in 1988 he received the Alfred B. Lagasse Medal from the Landscape Architecture Foundation for "major achievement in the field of the environment". The new Administrator has written and lectured extensively on a variety of environmental topics, including land use and the global environment. The Headquarters Library has a selection of articles by him as well as biographical information and a copy of his statement before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works at his confirmation hearing on January 31, 1989.
