These technology transfer seminars are co-sponsored
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.
EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD), and
the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
The development of national defense weapon systems,
aircraft control systems, and space exploration equip-
ment has resulted in the contamination of air, soil, and
ground water with explosive and radioactive waste. EPA
and DOD site restoration programs may require the re-
mediation of contamination through the utilization of a
variety of treatment and disposal technologies. In addi-
tion, the military services use open burning, open deto-
nation, static firing, and/or incineration to demilitarize
propellents, explosives, and pyrotechnics. These activi-
ties may be regulated by the Subpart X requirements of
40 CFR 264 (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
[RCRA]) for protection of the environment.
These seminars focus on technologies, sampling tech-
niques, and analytical methods applicable for remedia-
tion as well as compliance with the technical
requirements of RCRA. By transferring information on
these technologies and methods, this seminar series
contributes to ORD's mission of communicating the re-
sults of R&D to the people who can use and apply the
information. These seminars will not focus on risk as-
sessment nor public health and environmental cleanup
criteria.

REGISTRATION
These seminars are being presented free of charge.
Since registration will be limited to 200 attendees, how-
ever, the attached registration card should be com-
pleted and mailed or faxed as soon as possible. You will
