EPA Test Method Index

This index to EPA Test Methods was developed by
the US EPA Region 1 Library to improve access to
EPA test methods. Test methods are approved
procedures for a variety of regulatory and scientific
purposes.

Public Services
Most of the 28 libraries are open to the public,
providing access to EPA reports and commercial
publications supporting the activities of a
regional office, laboratory, or program.
EPA Desktop Library

The National Library Network provides a variety
of electronic resources for EPA staff. The
Desktop Library allows staff instant access to
journal articles, news, reports, reference
materials, and current awareness services from
their own offices. In addition, individual EPA
libraries offer training, for staff as well as
searching assistance to aid researchers in
compiling resources.
Network Coordination
The EPA Library Network, established in 1971, is
composed of libraries in the Agency's
headquarters, regional and field offices, research
centers, and specialized laboratories located
throughout the country.
The National Library Network Program provides
leadership and direction for the libraries, ensuring
their support of the Agency's mission. The
program provides a wide range of services to the
EPA libraries including facilitating
communications, networking and resource
sharing, and providing technical assistance on all
aspects of library management

Circulation

Most library materials are available for
circulation among EPA staff. Members of the
public may borrow library materials through
Interlibrary Loan. Contact your local public,
school or university library to arrange for an
i ntcrlibrary loan.
Collection
The combined network collection contains a wide
range of general informal ion on environmental
protection and management; basic sciences such
as biology and chemistry; applied sciences such
as engineering and toxicology; and extensive
coverage of topics featured in legislative
mandates such as hazardous waste, drinking
water, pollution prevention, and toxic substances.
As of August 2003, EPA libraries held:
• 113,000 books and reports
80,000 EPA documents
• 59,000 unique titles in microfiche
• 2,800 journal & newsletter titles
• 600 videotapes and audio cassettes
• a variety of online resources
CD-ROMs
The Library Network provides access to its
collections through the Online Library System
(OLS), an online catalog of the library holdings.

information relevant to almost every request.
