United States September 1992 Environmental EPA-453/F-92-004 Protection Agency RACT/BACT/LAER Information System Control Lechnology Center Printed on recycled paper. ------- The RACT/BACT/LAER Clearinghouse The RACT/BACT/LAER Clearing- house Information System (BUS), lo- cated on the U.S. EPA's Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards Technol- ogy Transfer Network (TTN) is available to help air pollution control personnel make control technology determinations. The data base contains over 2800 RACT, BACT, and LAER determinations from 49 states and three territories. Information on air emission limits and control technol- ogy for over 200 pollutants and 1000 processes collected from State and local air pollution control agencies is listed. BLIS users benefit from its location on the TTN. This bulletin board provides access to seven other data bases and allows communication between users. The number of BLIS users continues to grow, thanks to BLIS' user- friendly format and abundance of data. We look forward to making you part of the BLIS usergroup. ------- BLIS is menu-driven and easy to use — even for the first-time BLIS user. After logging in, the user can access information through the menu. Extensive help screens are available to explain the various options in BLIS. Menu choices include: • Searching the data base by State, Region, pollutant, process, or a combination of these and other search options • Printing the data you select through a search in standard BUS formats • Downloading data into a file on your PC • Viewing data on your screen through a flexible view feature that allows you to browse information easily. ------- Process Categories Contained in BUS include: External Combustion Waste Disposal Internal Combustion Organic Evaporation Losses Petroleum /Natural Gas Production, and Refining Chemicals Manufacturing Industry Metallurgical Industry Mineral Products Industry Wood Products Industry Food and Agricultural Products ------- To access BLIS you will need: • A Personal Computer, • Communication Software (e.g. CROSSTALK, PROCOMM), and • A modem and telephone connec- tion. You also need to register for the TTN by following these steps: • Set communications parameters to 8 data bits, a parity of N, and 1 stop bit. « Call (919) 541 -5742 at 1200,2400 or 9600 baud. • Go through the automated regis- tration process.
