Pesticide Product Label System Office of Pesticide Programs Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances ------- United States Environmental Protection Agency Office of Pesticide Programs vyEPA Pesticide Product Label System (PPLS) February 1998 Enclosed is the 1998 Pesticide Product Label System (PPLS), a software product developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), witch contains images of registered pesticide product labels submitted by pesticide registrants and accepted by the OPP since 1971. The label images have been indexed by company, product and date. The retrieval program allows the user to search by registration number, which is a combination of company number and product number. Searches can be conducted based on partial numbers if the complete number is unknown. Search results are displayed in full screen format and single or multiple pages can be printed. If you do not know the registration number, you may search the EPA Pesticide Product Information System through the Internet by using an online query developed by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. The online query allows you to search for product registration numbers by chemical, product name, and company. The address for this site is: Http://www.cdpr.ca.qov/docs/epa/epamenu.htm Some label amendments address only portions of the label and may not represent the complete label. Review of all updates for a single product may be necessary. The label images represent the product at the time the labeling was accepted. The product may have been transferred to another company or canceled since the date the label was accepted and such status information is not reflected in this system. The quality of the images varies greatly as it is dependent on the quality of the label submitted to and accepted by OPP. Since the initial version of the PPLS is the product of a conversion from images stored on microfiche, some oversized images are represented as two separate documents and will require retrieval of both to obtain the complete image. Regulations governing the labeling requirements of pesticide products are contained in Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 1 (40 CFR Ch.1) The 1998 PPLS replaces the 1997 PPLS in its entirety. The 1998 PPLS contains 25 disks - the first disk is a set up disk, which contains the label index, and disks 1 -24 contain the label images. You may discard the existing set of PPLS, since they are superseded by the enclosed set. For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users, an AUTORUN feature has been added to the FY 98 ------- PPLS Setup Disk that will automatically start the Setup program when the Disk is inserted into the CDROM. For Windows 3.1 users, please follow these instructions to install PPLS (it is not necessary to uninstall the existing program): 1. Load Windows. 2. Insert the PPLS "SETUP DISK" in the CD drive. 3. From Windows Program Manager, select "File Run..." 4. At the Command Line:, type "D:SETUP" (or the appropriate drive letter designation for your CD ROM) and press ENTER or Click on OK. 5. A dialogue box will appear showing you the destination directory were the program will be installed "C:\PPLS". 6. Click [OK] to verify that destination is correct. 7. The install program is set for the CD drive to be D:, if your CD drive is different enter your drive destination. 8. Click [OK] to verify that destination is correct. 9. The installation program will then start to copy files from the setup disk. 10. A dialogue box will appear showing you the group name: " PPLS" and the group icon will be created. 11. Click [OK]. 12. A dialogue box will appear showing you a READ ME file to let you know what to do in case you ever need to change file path. 13.
