MODULE 1
INTRODUCTION TO'ALL-IN-1 SEMINAR
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this module, you will be familiar with the following:
• ALL-IN-I, the EPA's New Electronic Messaging Mail system
• ALL-IN-Fs Main Menu and subsystems
• ALL-IN-1's system-wide features
• The Electronic Messaging (E-mail) subsystem
• The parts of ALL-IN-1 E-mail
• ALL-IN-1 Options users can select
• The relation between the Dialcom e-mail system and the ALL-IN-1 e-mail system
Module 1: Introduction to ALL-IN-1 Seminar 1-1
-------
OVERVIEW
ALL-IN-l is an office automation system which runs on a Digital VAX. It combines
various office applications into one software package.
ALL-IN-l provides functions similar to tasks that you typically perform at your desk. To
make the ALL-IN-l system easier to use, the terms used throughout the system relate to
these familiar office equipment and procedures. For example, mail is sent to a user's Inbox.
Any documents or messages to be retained are filed in folders in the user's File Cabinet.
When a message is deleted from the system, it is put into an electronic Wastebasket.
You communicate with ALL-IN-l through a PC or a terminal. ALL-IN-l uses menus to
prompt you step-by-step through system use. When you are familiar with the system, you
can go directly to the various applications, bypassing the intermediate menus.
The extensive on-line Help facility helps you learn how to use ALL-IN-l, explains error
messages, and gives you correction instructions.
Within the EPA community, users use ALL-IN-l primarily for the following functions:
• Sending and receiving electronic mail messages to other ALL-IN-l users
• Organizing and storing important mail messages
• Transferring PC documents and files to and from other electronic mail users on the
ALL-IN-l system

The Main Menu lists options which can be accessed using ALL-IN-1. When you select an
option from the Main Menu, ALL-IN-1 moves to the subsystem connected to the option. To
select an option from the Main Menu or any subsystem menu, type the one, two, or three
letter abbreviation for the option and press .
For example, to access the Communications menu, you would type COM and press .
A subsystem is an application that can perform many office tasks. Each major subsystem
contains a menu of options that allow you to perform specific tasks immediately, or access
other related applications. For example, from the Electronic Messaging menu you can enter
the "Create" option to create a mail message or you can enter the "File Cabinet" option to get
to the File Cabinet Management subsystem. Through the File Cabinet Management subsystem
you can manipulate documents, messages, and files that you create through the Electronic
Messaging, Distribution List Management, and Nickname Management Subsystems.
Within the EPA community, users will primarily be using the Electronic Messaging
Subsystem. However, they will also use the Communications, Desk Management, and
Information Management Subsystems to perform some functions.

-------
SYSTEM-WIDE FEATURES
ALL-IN-l has many features available system-wide. The Training (TR) option is available
from any of the ALL-IN-l menus. The Help option and the Interrupt Menu are also
available from anywhere within the ALL-IN-l system.
Training
The Computer Based Instruction (CBI) Facility provides on-line training in the use of all
the subsystems. The CBI Facility also provides a general overview of ALL-IN-l.
The CBI Facility provides lessons in two modes: CBI Mode and REAL Mode. In CBI Mode,
ALL-IN-l provides the examples for the lessons. In REAL Mode, ALL-IN-l uses existing
information in the user's account.
The Training option is available from the Main Menu and from many of the ALL-IN-l
subsystem menus, where it appears as an option. To access the CBIs, type TR and press
. ALL-IN-l displays the Computer Based Instruction menu for the subsystem from
which you entered the training option. Choose the option for the lesson that interests you
and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: The CBIs are designed to run on a full screen terminal. They do not support hard-copy
terminals or video terminals in Hard Copy Mode.
Help
The ALL-IN-l Help Facility provides information without requiring you to refer to
documentation.
Help can act as a quick reminder when you perform a new or less familiar operation. Step-
by-step instructions leads you through specific operations.
To access the Help Facility, press H. You can get information on how to use the Help
Facility by typing HELP on a menu and pressing .
Messages and Prompts
ALL-IN-l displays messages and prompts on the bottom line of the screen. These messages
provide information on what ALL-IN-l is doing, such as "New document selected." Prompts
ask you to enter information into a field, such as "Do you really want to delete this
document [Y/N]?"

-------
THE ELECTRONIC MESSAGING SUBSYSTEM
For the EPA, Electronic Messaging (E-Mail) is the primary ALL-IN-1 subsystem. This
subsystem lets you communicate with other ALL-IN-1 users. With E-mail you can perform
the following functions:
• Create a message to send to one or more people
• Send a message to any ALL-IN-1 user, even if the user is out of the office
• Distribute a document that exists in your File Cabinet
• Receive messages and documents
• File, print, delete, answer, or forward messages that you receive
When you log on to ALL-IN-1, the first screen of the Electronic Messaging menu appears.

PARTS OF ALL-IN-1 E-MAIL
There are several parts of the ALL-IN-1 E-Mail system with which you need to become
familiar. They include the following items:
• File Cabinet
• Menus
• Forms
• Text Editors
File Cabinet
The ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet holds all your documents in folders. Each document has a title
and a number. ALL-IN-1 creates five default folders for you for keeping messages:
Inbox
Read
Created
Outbox
Wastebasket
Module 1: Introduction to ALL-IN-1 Seminar
1-7
-------
You do not have to keep your messages in these default folders. You can create your own
folders and move messages into them.
Menus
ALL-IN-l enables the user to quickly select task options from a system of menus. Each
menu lists the options that you have at that menu.
The menus are arranged with the Main Menu at the top. If you start at the Main Menu, you
can display the menus for most subsystems. From these subsystems, you can, in turn,
display other menus.
To move to a menu, you type the mnemonic (a two or three letter abbreviation for the name
of the command) for the menu and press . For example, to access the Electronic
Messaging menu, type EM and press .
Be aware that some menus extend over more than one screen. Menus which are more than
one screen long are identified by a "(More)" status in the lower right-hand part of the
screen. To see the next menu screen, you type M and press .

Forms
Some forms require data entry before they can be processed. For example, if you want to
refile a document, you have to specify where you want to refile it. This is done by
completing a form with the necessary information.
If an option requires some information, ALL-IN-1 displays a form asking you for the
information. You enter each piece of information into the appropriate field provided on
the form.
Text Editors
In ALL-IN-1, you can write, edit, and save your mail messages before sending them. These
messages can range from short memos to highly structured text, such as monthly reports.
Whenever you type a document, use the ALL-IN-1 editor, which enables you to enter, edit,
and format text. You can also edit a message or file that you have transferred from your
PC or terminal; however, the message or file must either be in ASCII or WordPerfect file
format if you want to modify it using the ALL-IN-1 editor.
ALL-IN-1 provides two different editors: WordPerfect 5.0 and EOT. The default editor is
WordPerfect and EDT is available as an alternative. For users accessing ALL-IN-1 using a
PRIME terminal or any terminal unable to emulate VT-100 mode, EDT will be the Hard
Copy Mode text editor.
WordPerfect
WordPerfect 5.0 on the VAX has been set up to work basically the same as it does on a IBM
PC WordPerfect on the VAX is a full-screen, full-featured word processor which includes
the following:
Word wrap
In-text editing
Spell checking
Retrieval of WordPerfect 5.0 files from a PC
Bold and underline
Moving text
EDT
EDT, as an ALL-IN-1 editor, works the same as it does on the VAX. It is a basic line editor
which allows text creation and editing. Using EDT you can edit your document line by line
using line editor commands. Features available include:
• Deleting text
• Copying text
• Finding a specific word or phrase
• Moving text

OPTIONS
"Select"
The "Select" option enables you change the current item fields. You must select the item
you want to work with before choosing a menu option. When you enter the "Select" option,
an overlay form is displayed on the lower half of the screen. The current items and the
subsystem menu name remain on the screen so you can enter a new item while referring to
the last item selected. Often, you can use L to help you select these items.
"Create"
The "Create" option lets you create a new item in a subsystem. It may be a document, an
action item, a mail message, or a distribution list, depending on the subsystem. The "Create"
option will either display an overlay form on the lower half of the screen or begin to
process your request to create a new item.
"Send"
The "Send" options lets you send a message to another user on the ALL-IN-1 e-mail system.
When a message is sent using the "Send" option, the message is automatically moved to the
user's Outbox. Use this option to send messages that are already written and addressed and
waiting in the Created folder.
"Edit"
The "Edit" option lets you modify an existing item. The "Edit" option may work differently
depending on the subsystem, but the result is the same—modification of the current item.
"Read"
The "Read" option displays the current item on the terminal screen. "Read" will either
display an item (as with a document or a mail message) or show you information about the
current item (as with an action item or a phone directory entry).
"Delete"
The "Delete" option removes the current item from its folder and places it in the Wastebasket
folder. ALL-IN-1 displays a confirmation message, letting you cancel the operation if you
change your mind. This is usually a one line prompt near the bottom of the screen. You
7-72 Module 1: Introduction to ALL-IN-1 Seminar
-------
can respond Y for "Yes" and press to perform the deletion, or respond N for "No"
and press to cancel it, or press to cancel it.
"Print"
The "Print" option displays the Printing Document form, from which you can define such
things as the output destination, the number of copies, and, by pressing A, printer
parameters (like the number of lines on a page, vertical spacing, margins, and shadow
print).
In some cases, you can print a brief or full description of the items in a subsystem.
"Index"
The "Index" option displays a list of items in the current subsystem. The list can be as
selective as desired, based upon your selection criteria. These items are usually contained
within the highest level current item field.
"Document Transfer"
ALL-IN-l provides a several different options for transferring files to and from the
ALL-IN-1 e-mail system. These options include ASCII and binary file transfer as well as
capturing mail messages to your PC or terminal.
RELATION TO DIALCOM ELECTRONIC MESSAGING SYSTEM
The sections that follow describe the relationship between the old e-mail system and the
new system.
Ability to Access Dialcom from ALL-IN-1'
An option has been set up in ALL-IN-1 to enable users to connect to the Dialcom e-mail
system. Users can read and send messages on the Dialcom system while still logged in to
ALL-IN-1. The option has been provided to help ease the transition from the old system to
the new system. The Dialcom e-mail system can be accessed by using the "Connect to
Dialcom" option on the Communications menu. For more information on this option, see the
item titled "Connecting to Dialcom" in the Advanced Features section of this guide.

The Read New Mail Option
Messages are delivered to your Inbox whether or not|you are logged into ALL-IN-1.
INBOX
Figure 12. New Mail in the Inbox
The only way for a user find out when new mail has been received is by logging on to ALL-
IN-1. At the top of each subsystem menu the number of new mail messages is displayed.
The "Read New Mail" (RN) option enables the user to read each new mail message
individually. It is important to know that new mail messages must be read before action
can be performed on them. The "RN" option enables the user to read a message and to
return to the Electronic Messaging menu. One major advantage of this option is that the user
can respond to messages immediately. Also, while reading the message, the user can access
such options as printing, deleting, or forwarding.
To read new messages individually, follow these steps.
1. Select "Read New Mail* from the Electronic Messaging menu typing RN and pressing
. The oldest unread message appears first.
2-16
Module 2: Hands-On Session
-------
2. Either press until the end of the message is reached or press to return

2. Press until the end of the message is reached, or use the scroll options
described in the "Scrolling Through Messages" section. When the end of the message is
reached, press . The Electronic Messaging menu reappears.
ANSWERING A MESSAGE
After reading a message, the user may determine that it requires an answer. ALL-IN-1 has
the "Answer (A)" option which enables the user to respond by automatically addressing the
response to the sender.
In writing the reply, refer to the editor instructions to perform cursor movement and
editing. When the message is complete, press to file the message. Be sure to keep in
mind the following items when making a reply.
• The reply message created is selected in the Current Item Block.
• The software automatically assigns a title to the message, indicating it is a response to
the original message.
• The reply message is placed in the Created folder, which holds all messages written but
not sent. While the message is in this folder, it can be edited, printed, or deleted.
• The status of the message is Unsent.
• The software displays the "Send this message when you are ready" prompt at the bottom
of the screen.
To answer the message, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the message to be answered is selected in the Current Item Block.
2. Type A for the "Answer" option and press .
The following message will appear if the message was addressed to more than one
person: "Do you wish to reply to all addressees (A) or the sender only (S)?"
3. Type S to reply to the sender only, or A to reply to all addressees. Confirm the
choice by pressing .
Module 2: Hands-On Session 2-17

4. Type the reply.
5. After typing the reply, press to save and send the reply.
FORWARDING A MESSAGE
The "Forward (F)" option forwards a message, addresses an existing message, and adds an
optional cover note. If you write a cover note, the option attaches a copy of the document
to the cover note and puts them together in the Created folder. Another copy of the
document remains in its original folder. Your recipients can easily separate the document
from the cover note, using the "File Attachment (FA)" option.
To forward a message, follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the message you want to forward is selected in the Current Item Block.
2. Type F to select the "Forward" option and press .
3. Specify whether or not you want to add a cover note by typing Y for Yes or N for note
at the appropriate prompt.
4. If you typed Y to add a cover note, write your message and press F to file it. The
Electronic Messaging menu appears.
5. Type S and press to send the message.
To forward several documents together, select them from an index and use the "Forward
Selected (XF)" option.
Exercise 3: Forwarding Messages
Module 2: Hands-On Session
-------
USING THE INDEX OPTION
At times it is necessary to perform tasks on more than one document or message at a time.
ALL-IN-1 provides an "Index (I)" option for this purpose. The "Index" option displays a list
or filed messages from a folder. Some of the advantages of the "Index" option are as
follows:
• Tasks can be performed on more than one document or message at a time. For example,
several messages or documents can be deleted at the same time
• The Index searches for specific messages
• Several options are available without having to return to the Electronic Messaging Menu
after each option is accessed
• You can toggle between the Index and another item
The following figure shows an example of an index of the Read folder.

Also, the ALL-IN-1 System enables you to create other message folders. The purposes of the
five different folders are discussed below. Folders enable the user to create a better
organized workspace and to file messages in folders that are more meaningful.
Since the ALL-IN-1 System administrator places Read, Unread, and Sent messages that have
been in the mailbox over a specified time period in the Wastebasket folder, you need to use
the file option to save any messages you do not want deleted.
2-24
Module 2: Hands-On Session
-------
Filing an Entire Message or Parts of a Message
A Message can be broken down into three different segments: header information, text, and
attachments.
The entire message may be filed by using the "File Message (FM)" option. This option is
used to retain a copy of the message for reference. It is not used to edit or send the message
to another user. The "File Text (FT)" and the "File Attachments (FA)" options can also be
used. Filing the entire message allows you to organize messages by easily recognizable
criteria such as project name, person's name, or group name. For example, a folder called
"Accounting" could contain all mail messages relating to accounting or finances.
To file the entire message (header, text, and attachments) use the "File Message (FM)"
option.
1. Be sure the message is identified in the Current Item Block. If not, select it.
2. Type FM and press . The File Message form appears on the screen.

original mail folder. It only places a copy of the message in the specified folder. To
actually move a message, refer to the "Refile Document (RFD)" option.
Filing Header Information
The header is the top portion of the message. It includes identifying information such as
the sender and receiver of the message, the date it was sent, and so forth. There is no
option just for the purpose of filing message headers.
DELETING A MESSAGE
Messages are deleted from folders with the "Delete (D)" option. When you delete a message,
ALL-IN-1 places the message into the Wastebasket folder. The message can be recovered
from the Wastebasket folder up until the time it is removed permanently by the ALL-IN-1
System Administrator.

not.

FILING ATTACHMENTS
Attachments are other messages or documents that can be included in a message. They can
include the following:
• Reports from other users
• Forwarded messages
• Files from programs
You can use the "File Attachment (FA)" option to make a copy of the attachment to edit. If
you want to forward a message to another user or attach other messages or documents to the
message you are sending, use this option to send these items as "attachments." Someone may
attach preliminary research findings to a message, asking that it be reviewed. You will
need to file the attachment before editing that document.

REFILING DOCUMENTS
Sometimes, when organizing mail folders, it becomes necessary to move a message or
document to another folder. The reasons might be a mistake was made and a message or
document was filed in the wrong folder or that a message or document was accidentally
deleted. The refiling of messages or documents can be accomplished with the "Refile
Document (RFD)" option. This option removes the document from the current folder and
moves it to the folder you specify. It does not make a second copy of the message or
document. Some of the typical uses of this option include the following:
• Retrieving a message from a Wastebasket.
• Consolidating messages and documents into one folder.
• Placing messages and documents into different folders.
To refile a document using the "Refile Document (RFD)" option:
1. Select the message or document to be refile.
2. Type RFD to select the "Refile Document" option and press . The Refiling
Document form appears on the screen.

RECLAIMING A MESSAGE FROM THE WASTEBASKET
If a message has been deleted and later you want to access it, you can retrieve it from the
Wastebasket using the "RFD" option (provided that the System Administrator has not deleted
it). The "RFD" option retrieves the message from the Wastebasket and places it in a
specified folder.
To retrieve a message from the Wastebasket follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the message to be retrieved is selected in the Current Item Block.
2. Type RFD to select the "Refile Document" option from any Electronic Messaging

CREATING AND USING NICKNAMES
Frequently, in the process of sending mail, it is discovered that the address or name of the
person is difficult to spell or hard to remember. The "Nickname" option enables you to
avoid typing long names. A nickname is really an abbreviated substitute for a user name or
system.

Nickname Cautions and Considerations
In the process of creating a nickname be aware of the following points:
• Once is pressed at a highlighted field (such as "Nickname"), you cannot go
back to the field to make changes.
• To change the nickname, you must create a new one.
• After creating a nickname, it is displayed in the Current Item Block.
• The address of the current nickname can be read, deleted, or edited.
• A nickname must be unique.
• The system finds nicknames more quickly than user names.
SEARCHING THE ALL-IN-1 DIRECTORY
Quite often in the process of sending message, the correct address is not readily available.
The "Search ALL-IN-1 Directories (SAD)" option can be used to search all addresses to
obtain the correct address.
To search the ALL-IN-1 directory using SAD, follow these steps:
1. At the "TO" prompt of the Message Header, press M to view the available
options. The Message Header menu appears.

Searching for Specific Addresses
An address can be searched by name, title, department, or telephone number. Either the
full name or a partial name can be used. Keep in mind that the more details that arc
provided, the narrower the search will be. When the software finds a matching name, it
inserts the name and address at the "TO" prompt. If more than one match is found, the
names are displayed in a list from which to choose. In the event that a match is not found,
the following prompt is displayed, "No matching records could be found."
Searching by Name
To search for an addressee by name, type the name (or partial name) in the "User Name"
field and press .
To add a name from a list of names, follow these steps:

ADDRESSING MAIL USING X.400
When sending mail messages you may want to communicate with users on other systems or
other networks located in different parts of the country or the world. Because all networks
do not utilize the same operating system, it was necessary to establish some sort of standard
communication among the networks. This standard is X.400. This section is not designed to
teach all about X.400 but to describe how to obtain a user's X.400 address, if he or she has
one. It also is designed to demonstrate how to save the X.400 address of another user who
has sent mail. To retrieve your (or any other user's X.400 address) contact your local System
Administrator.
Saving Any Address As a Nickname (Including X.400)
If a message is delivered through the X.400 addressing scheme and the address is to be saved
for future messages, use the "Save Address (SA)n option.
To save any address using the "SA" option, follow these steps:
1. From the Electronic Messaging menu, make sure the message is selected in the Current
Item Block. If not, select it.
2. Type SA to select the "Save Address" option and press . The Save Address

DISTRIBUTION LISTS
You may need to send mail messages to the same group of users on a regular basis (your
department members, for example). The "Distribution Lists (DL)" option eliminates the
need to type the recipient names every time mail is sent to the same group of people.
A distribution list can contain the address of other users on the same system or other users
on a different system or network. This list may be saved and used each time a message is
sent to that same group of users. For example, a distribution list may be created containing
the names of only those people who are working on a particular project. There is no limit to
the number of distribution lists or the number of people on a distribution list.
ALL-IN-1 automatically provides a folder called "Distribution Lists" for any lists that are
created. In addition, the System Manager may also create distribution lists that can be
shared by every ALL-IN-1 user on the system. These system-wide distribution lists are
located in a folder called "System Distribution Lists," accessed through the Directories
subsystem. To create a new system distribution list or modify an existing system
distribution list, contact Email User Support at FTS 629-7862 or 1-800-334-2405.

SELECTING DELIVERY OPTIONS
Most computer systems handle a large number of users. Consequently, the time it takes to
send messages varies from system to system. ALL-IN-1 has some built in features to
expedite important messages or cause less important messages to take more time in reaching
their destination. It also has a feature which notifies you if and when a message was
received by the addressee or addressees. These delivery options are "Priority," "Delivery
Receipt," and "Read Receipt."
To use one or more of these options, follow these steps:

HARD COPY MODE
ALL-IN-l can operate in two modes: Screen Mode and Hard Copy Mode. In Screen Mode,
ALL-IN-1 displays menus and other forms on your terminal screen.
In Hard Copy Mode, no forms display on the terminal. Instead, ALL-IN-1 displays form
identifiers to tell you what for you are on and field identifiers to prompt you for data. To
perform a task, you enter the appropriate mnemonics at the prompts and press to
display the next form or field identifier. Because forms take time to display, ALL-IN-1
responds faster to your input in Hard Copy Mode than in Screen Mode.
Using Hard Copy Mode on a terminal that cannot emulate a VT-100 improves response time
because the screen is never painted. This is particularly true if you are logging in to ALL-
IN-1 from a non-full screen video display terminal or from a remote location through a
modem.
Note: Access from any non-full screen terminal will automatically place ALL-IN-1 in Hard
Copy Mode.
When entering information in Hard Copy Mode, follow these steps:
Press after entering an option and after entering a response to a prompt.
Press to move to the next field identifier and press / to go to
the previous field identifier.
Press to return to the previous form identifier.
Clear a field and press L to display a list of valid entries for that field.
Press H to access the on-line help facility.
Press I to display the Interrupt menu.
Switching Modes
When you log in to ALL-IN-1 from a PC or terminal that can emulate VT-100 mode, you are
automatically in Screen Mode (unless your user profile specifies Hard Copy Mode as your
terminal mode). Use the "Set Terminal Mode - Screen/Hard Copy Mode" option on the User
Setup Parameters menu to switch between Hard Copy Mode and Screen Mode.
Setting Your Terminal Operating Mode
The "Set Terminal Mode - Screen/Hard Copy Mode (ST)" option lets you select how ALL-IN-
1 appears on your terminal. You can choose between form displays (Screen Mode) or
command prompts (Hard Copy Mode). The third choice, "Forced VTIOO Mode," makes ALL-
IN-1 recognize your terminal as a VTIOO, even if it is not. This option is available from the
User Setup Parameters menu, where it appears as an option.
To set your terminal operating mode, type ST and press . ALL-IN-1 displays the
Set Default Terminal Mode menu.
Module 2: Hands-On Session
-------
The "Hard Copy Mode (H)" option causes ALL-IN-1 to display prompts instead of forms.
This mode is useful when you are accessing ALL-IN-1 from a remote site and wish to
improve your response time.
Using the Keyboard Functions
Activating the ALL-IN-1 keyboard and keypad functions is different in Hard Copy Mode.
However, the functions that the keys perform are exactly the same in both modes.
When using Hard Copy Mode, ALL-IN-1 assumes that you are using a standard keyboard
that may not have a numeric keypad. To simulate keypad functions, press the key on
the main keyboard in conjunction with the regular keys to execute the commands. For
example:
A-Z = A-Z
0-9 = Keypad 0-9
= Keypad <,>
<-> = Keypad <->
= Keypad <.>
0 = 'Exit Screen'
A = A
If you are in Hard Copy Mode while using a VT100 terminal or a VTlOO-compatible
terminal (VT200 series terminal, for example), you can use the numeric keypad just as in
Screen Mode. Note that ALL-IN-1 does not recognize the left and right arrow keys in Hard
Copy Mode.
READ WITH PAUSE
This function is to support hard copy mode (e.g., non-full screen, dial-up) terminals. Two
commands: "Read New Messages with Pause (RNP)" and "Read with Pause (RP)" allow 23
lines of text to be displayed on the screen. Without these commands, the message scrolls off
the screen. These options provide the user with the opportunity to read a full-screen of
data before continuing to the next screen.
Users accessing ALL-IN-1 through the hard copy mode {User Setup Parameters (US), Set
terminal mode - screen/hard copy (ST)} are provided with the "Read with Pause (RP)" and
"Read New Message with Pause (RNP)" options.
To use "Read with Pause" follow these steps:
1. Type RP at the prompt and press .

DOCUMENT TRANSFER
The Document Transfer subsystem enables you to transfer documents between your PC or
terminal and the ALL-IN-1 Electronic Messaging subsystem. Documents can be transferred
as binary files, which retaimtheir formatting, or as ASCII files which are text files with all
formatting codes removed.
The Document Transfer subsystem offers you the following advantages:
• Creating a text document using your PC or terminal, then transferring that information
to ALL-IN-1 to include it in a mail message to another user
• Capturing mail messages to disk for storage
• Sending binary files, such as Lotus 1-2-3, dBase, or Freelance documents to another user
by attaching the file to an ALL-IN-1 mail message
The "Document Transfer" option is available from the Communications menu, where it
appears as an option and from the Main Menu or any subsystem menu, including the
Electronic Messaging subsystem.
