        EPA PUBLICATIONS &
        INFORMATION CENTER

An Agency information system responding
to the need for access to an extensive body
of environmental literature. Formally
established in April 1991, it is supported by
the Office of Administration & Resources
Management.

              SERVICES

MAIS

    The Master Automated Inventory System
    is an online environmental database
updated daily, which contains over 7000
    titles of multi-media products.

    Functions: Order entry, query, inventory
    for on hand month-to-date quantities
    immediately recalculated, and mailing list
    customer information updated or
    inactivated by EPIC personnel with
    appropriate program/client coordination.

Access: Currently, access is limited to
seven test sites. Once the final report is
out and system enhancements are made the
    system will be offered progressively
    to various locations throughout the
    Agency, possibilities to include: AA/RAs,
    Public Information Centers (PICS),
    Libraries, Dockets, and other clients.

KEY WORD TITLE SEARCH SYSTEM

The key word title search system is a
    subject-oriented database allowing users to
    identify those publications most closely
    associated with the subject matter
involved, via one word or multi-string
    query.

Access; This system is being co-piloted
with the MAIS system and win be offered
in conjunction with that system once the
pilot is completed in December 1991.
