              U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S
                   INFORMATION SYSTEMS INVENTORY

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed the Information Systems Inventory (ISI)
for use by its personnel, its governmental partners and clients, and the public. The purpose of the ISI
is to provide an index, and pathfinder to EPA's computer-based information systems and inventories.
These entries are taken from the January 1994 edition of the ISI.

This listing contains data about many of EPA's systems which are "publicly accessible". This is by no
means a comprehensive listing. If you need assistance in identifying an EPA system which is not
included on this list, please feel free to contact INFOTERRA/USA with as much information about the
system as you have, and we will be happy to look for more information for you.

Please note that each system includes a CONTACT. For any additional information regarding each
of these systems, including availability, cost, and further technical detail, you must contact this person
directly. INFOTERRA/USA is happy to provide this listing as a pointer to EPA systems that may
be of interest to you. We do not, however, operate as a distributor for any of the systems on the
list.

ABSTRACT: The EXAMSII program is an interactive modeling system that allows users to specify and store the properties of
chemicals and ecosystems, to modify the characteristics of them via simple English-like commands, and to conduct
efficient, rapid evaluations and error analyses of the probable aquatic fate of synthetic organic chemicals. It is used for
ecological risk assessment, and provides reliable analyses of the mobility and persistence of pesticides and industrial
       chemicals.

ABSTRACT: GAES, version 2.0, is designed to assist and educate non-geophysicists in the use of geophysics at hazardous waste
sites. A series of questions are asked about the site geology, contamination problem and cultural noise. In addition, the
program also contains a database of the physical and chemical properties of 94 substances selected from EPA's first
priority list. The properties in the database were compiled from over 270 peer-reviewed references. The program presents
a list of contaminants from which a selection may be made. Answers to questions in the program regarding the
contaminants are automatically entered. Based upon the answers given to the questions, the program provides a weighted
recommendation of what types of methods will be most useful to solve site problems.

ABSTRACT: This computer code calculates the expected genetic and somatic health effects at a generic high level radioactive
waste geologic repository. The code calculates radionuclide releases to air, land surface, and rivers or lakes from a
repository as a result of expected events and accident events. The accidents are human intrusion (drilling), breccia pipes,
faults, meteorites and volcanoes. The expected events are shaft and borehole leakage and bulk rock transport. The
releases result either from destruction of waste packages or disturbance of the contaminated repository backfilled tunnels.

ABSTRACT: The Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) Model was developed to help landfill designers and
evaluators estimate the amount of moisture percolation through different types of landfill covers and liners. This quasi-
two-dimensional, deterministic, computer-based water budget model was developed and adapted from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture CREAMS Hydrologic model and an earlier model (called HSSWDS). The Soil Conservation
Service's curve number method is used for calculating runoff. The model uses engineering, hydrologic, and climatologic
data as input and per forms a sequential analysis. Input data is in the form of rain fall, average temperatures, average
solar radiation, leaf area in dices and characteristics of cover materials and subsurface layers.

ABSTRACT: IRIS is the EPA's repository and primary vehicle for communication of chronic cancer and noncancer health hazard
information representing EPA consensus opinion following comprehensive review by intra-Agency scientific work groups.
IRIS contains substance specific hazard identification and dose-response information on over 500 substances. It is a useful
information resource that points the user to the underlying human and/or animal data used to support the Agency's
opinion. IRIS was developed in response to a growing need for consistent Agency risk information for use in decision-
making activities. Because of the assumptions and uncertainties used in risk assessment, IRIS risk information should be
used carefully and with scientific judgement.

The radioactivity exposure is that which escapes from a shallow land burial site or through options from a deep geologic
burial site. DARTAB is used as a subroutine to calculate fatal cancers and genetic defects. RADRISK data is required
to run the model. Health effects to the general population and the critical population group are calculated as specified
by the user. A PC version which calculates health effects for a critical population group (PRESTOCPG/PC) is also

ABSTRACT: The MultiCh'amber Consumer Exposure Model (MCCEM) is a user friendly computer model that estimates indoor
concentrations for, and individual exposures to, chemicals released from products in residences. Concentrations can be
modeled in as many as 4 zones in a home. The user can input time-varying emission rates for a contaminant in each zone
of the residence, outdoor concentrations, and the zone where an individual is located, in a spreadsheet environment.
Time-varying exposure profiles can be developed. Air exchange rates and inter-zonal airflows are available for different
types of residences. The model'can be used to evaluate exposure and risk.

ABSTRACT: MULTIMED simulates the transport and transformation of contaminants released to the multimedia environment
from a hazardous waste disposal facility. The simulation includes release to air and soil, including the unsaturated and
saturated zones, and possible interception of the subsurface contaminant plume by a surface stream. The model further
simulates the movement of a contaminant from the environmental medium to humans and other potentially affected
       species.

ABSTRACT: The National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program's (NAPAP's) emissions inventory activities focus on the
estimation of emissions from pollutants, which contribute to acid deposition. Electric utilities, which emit a large share
of total acid deposition precursor emissions, are important for modeling analyses. This project was conducted to create
a file containing comprehensive data on all electric utilities in the United States. The resulting 1985 National Utility
Reference File contains detailed unit level data for nearly 10,000 electricity generating units.

ABSTRACT: QU AL2E is designed to simulate the dispersion and advection of conservative and reacting constituents in branching
stream systems and rivers. Constituents modeled included conservative minerals, temperature, BOD, chlorophyll,
phosphorus, NH3, nitrate, nitrite, DO, coll form bacteria, radioactive material and arbitrary nonconservative material.
It considers nutrient cycles and algal growth. The program simulates the dynamic behavior of these constituents by
numerical integration of the one-dimensional form of the advection/dispersion transport equation. Any branching stream
system can be simulated. QUAL2E includes an uncertainty analysis module, UNCAS, that provides sensitivity analysis,
first order error analysis and Monte Carlo Simulation capabilities.
