NEW EPA REPORT EXAMINES INTERMEDIA POLLUTANTS

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has published
the first comprehensive examination of the interactive
effects of air and water pollution control.

The 358-page research report, INTERMEDIA ASPECTS OF
AIR AND WATER POLLUTION CONTROL, lists the major pollutants
of both air and water, their source by the Standard Indus-
trial Classification Code, and the problems they cause.
Also described are the principal control and residue
disposal techniques and problems as well as' methods which
could convert discharges from one medium to the other.

Other parts of the report also develop comparative cost
information and identify the most critical factors affecting
the choice of control technique and discharge media.

The report will be helpful to engineers and others
responsible for the design and management of comprehensive
pollution control programs. The work was done for EPA's
Office of Research and Development by Ralph Stone and
Company, Inc., of Los Angeles, California, under a $71,000
        research contract.

Other than press copies, the report (EPA-600/5-73-003)
is available only from the U. S. Department of Commerce's
National Technical Information Service and the Superinten-
dent of Documents, U. S. Government Printing Office,
        Washington, D. C. 20402. The GPO price is $3.15.
